President Bush's Address Part Two

Hey folks,

I just posted President Bush’s address last night. It did not make some people very happy. Before he said ANYTHING, they were coming out against him. The MMD and the LWL doing everything they could to close people's minds to what Bush was actually going to say. It was amazing to watch. They even had a countdown clock going.

The AP said,

Unswayed by anti-war passions, President Bush was to say Wednesday he will send 21,500 additional U.S. forces to Iraq to quell its near-anarchy. He was to acknowledge for the first time he had erred by failing to order a troop buildup last year.

The military increase will push the American presence in Iraq toward its highest level and put Bush on a collision course with the new Democratic Congress. It also runs counter to advice from some generals.

Bush was to announce the buildup in a prime-time speech to the nation. Excerpts of his remarks were released in advance by the White House.

Unswayed by anti-war passions? GOOD. Speaker Pelosi said after coming from a pre-address meeting,

"This is the third time we are going down this path. Two times this has not worked. Why are they doing this now? That question remains."

CBS said that the Democrats were going to vote against the President’s plan. But it doesn’t MEAN anything. CBS said,

Even before President Bush's much-anticipated address to the nation Wednesday night, Democrats were laying plans to register their opposition to the Iraq troop buildup he's expected to announce.

Senate Democrats were planning a vote next week on nonbinding legislation that would urge the president not to send more troops."

STOP! Non-binding. This means that they are going to act like children on a play ground. "We vote that you are an idiot. We do not like you. We do not like what you are doing. We are not going to stop you {Because they can’t} but we are going to vote against you." What a waste of tax payer’s money, and what a waste of time.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he hoped for a bipartisan measure that would declare, "We don't support this escalation of the war."

If it passes, Reid, D-Nev., said, "The president's going to have to take note of that. I think that's the beginning of the end, as far as I'm concerned."

{Laughing} The President has to take note of what? You do not like him. He already knows. The beginning of the end? Nope. Your vote means NOTHING. Maybe it will make you feel good. Maybe it will show your Looney base that you are mad. But it means NOTHING. It’s symbolic without substance. But then again, that IS the LWL.

Remember I said Tuesday,

I do not get their problem in understanding this. I really don’t. OK, the violence is rising. We want out. The troops that are there are having a difficult time. SEND MORE. Get rid of the problem, THEN bring them all home.

So the President said last night

"Their solution {The LWL} is to scale back America's efforts in Baghdad-- or announce the phased withdrawal of our combat forces. We carefully considered these proposals. And we concluded that to step back now would force a collapse of the Iraqi government, tear the country apart, and result in mass killings on an unimaginable scale. Such a scenario would result in our troops being forced to stay in Iraq even longer, and confront an enemy that is even more lethal. If we increase our support at this crucial moment, and help the Iraqis break the current cycle of violence, we can hasten the day our troops begin coming home."

I was a volunteer Fireman in NY. I have been on the front lines of some pretty imposing fires. Sometimes the fires get out of control. They threaten entire neighborhoods. You do NOT pull the Firefighters out and hope the fire goes away. You send in MORE. Helicopters, Tankers, whatever it takes. You do not leave until the fire is eradicated.

There is a fire in Iraq. It threatens the entire country and possibly the world if left to burn. We cannot pull out our "Firefighters" and hope that it just goes away. We have to send in more. Whatever it takes until the "fire" {enemy} is eradicated.

I entitled this "Bush is Back." because his speech last night sounded a lot like the old Bush. The one that said, "I will do whatever it takes to protect this country and defeat the axis of evil. If you like it or not." Well, last night he said. "We WILL send I more troops. We WILL do whatever it takes to win this war. If you like it or not." I say finally.

If we had gone in there from the get go with TRUE "Sock and Aw" we would have been over this by now. But in the name of "political correctness," we didn’t. Now you have what we have.
