Back To School 2009

Be Mindful of the Kids.

Hey folks,

I know some of you checked in to check out the Big Sunday edition of the OPNTalk Blog, and you are surprised to see a very special and rare Monday edition. Well, that's because this is not your average, everyday, humdrum Monday. This is the First Day Back To School. Here in South Florida at least, with Schools across this country following suit in the next one to two weeks.

That's right folks. All the little Kiddies will be out there, waiting for their big yellow menace to arrive to take them back to the place they love so much. Although for the Parents out there, this is a day you have been waiting for, for the kids, a day they have been dreading.

Every year the numbers change. But ONE is way to many. Every year we hear stories of lost children, grieving Parents, and regretful Drivers. Every year lives are cut down WAY to soon. Every year, Children die.

In a lot of these cases, the accidents could have and should have been avoided. In some cases, a child, bored and not wanting to be at the Bus Stop, gets reckless and causes it. Others are Drivers running late to work, or just not paying attention. Some fail to stop when they see the lights. Some go way to fast. But in all these cases, one thing is certain. They should NEVER happen.

So just as a reminder. It's back to school time. To all the Kids out there, be mindful of where you are and all the traffic around you. DO NOT TAKE FOR GRANTED That the drivers will yield to your Right of Way. Drivers, be mindful that the Kids ARE back out there. Follow the Law and rules put into place, not only to protect the Children, but to protect YOU as well.

Can you imagine just driving to work, following all the laws and rules, going the speed limit, and doing all the right things, when all of a sudden, BAM! You kill a Kid who runs out in front of you? Imagine seeing the Child laying there. Lifeless. Imagine having to look into the grieving Parents eyes. At NO fault of your own, a child dies. Imagine if it were YOUR Child. Now imagine it IS YOUR Fault. Forget the criminal aspect, how would you be able to live with yourself KNOWING that just because you were running 5 minutes late, a Child is dead. Is it worth it?

To all the Kids out there, have a happy and safe first day back. To all the Drivers out there, be mindful of your surroundings. Be CAREFULL while driving, especially in area's that you are not familiar with. Let's all have a happy and SAFE School Year this year.
Peter
