H.S. For Sunday 062208

Look Out Subway.

You have competition.

Hey folks,

We all know Jared. He is famous for losing 240 pounds on the “Subway Diet.” So the story goes, according to Wikipedia anyway.

By his junior year at North Central High School, Fogle's weight was at 425 pounds, and he reportedly wore size 12XL shirts[1].

Several years later, after his roommate, a pre-med student at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., correctly diagnosed Jared with sleep apnea and edema, he was sent to the hospital. Fogle's father, who is a physician, told him he might not live past 35, and Jared began to turn his life around. At the age of 20, Fogle estimated he consumed a diet of around 10,000 calories a day.[2]

Interested by Subway's "7 Under 6" campaign, Fogle tried his first turkey sub, and enjoyed the sandwich.[1] He developed his own "Subway diet", consisting of a 6-inch turkey sub for lunch, and a footlong veggie sub for dinner.[1]

After three months on the diet, he had lost nearly 100 pounds, and weighed in at 330 pounds (150 kg). He stuck with the diet and soon began to walk as much as he could, rather than using transport, and would walk up the stairs rather than take an elevator. By the end of the diet Jared had lost over 240 pounds (109 kg).[1]

12 X LARGE? If my friend was here, he would just have one word to say about that. “Damn ” {Smile}

Then a few years back, a documentary came out entitled “Supersize Me”

Why are Americans so fat? Two words: fast food. What would happen if you ate nothing but fast food for an entire month? Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock does just that and embarks on the most perilous journey of his life. The rules? For 30 days he can't eat or drink anything that isn't on McDonald's menu; he must wolf three squares a day; he must consume everything on the menu at least once and supersize his meal if asked. Spurlock treks across the country interviewing a host of experts on fast food and an equal number of regular folk while chowing down at the Golden Arches. Spurlock's grueling drive-through diet spirals him into a physical and emotional metamorphosis that will make you think twice about picking up another Big Mac.

So Subway heathy and McDonald’s not? WAIT Not so fast. According to the AP- Virginia man sheds 80 pounds eating at McDonald's

A Virginia man lost about 80 pounds in six months by eating nearly every meal at McDonald's. Not Big Macs, french fries and chocolate shakes. Mostly salads, wraps and apple dippers without the caramel sauce.

Apple dippers without the caramel sauce? Would that not just be apples?

Chris Coleson tipped the scales at 278 pounds in December. The 5-foot-8 Coleson now weighs 199 pounds and his waist size has dropped from 50 to 36.

The 42-year-old businessman from Quinton says he chose McDonald's because it's convenient.

His inspiration came from his two children and from the story of a blind war veteran who rode a tandem bicycle cross-country.

Coleson says his goal is to get back to the 185 pounds he weighed when he married Tricia Summer. Their 10th anniversary is Saturday.

Do you know the best diet? It works every time. Eat less, move more. It really is that simple.
