Micro Management Is Not The Answer

By: George A. Rowley

When you kill the creativity of your employees, the company pays for it in lost profits. Nothing kills the spirit of your employees faster than a supervisor directing every move every day. Everyone needs breathing room. Don't spend the day trying to nail employees goofing off. All of us need a break from time to time.

Micro management is a company running without a plan. No one has any idea of what management wants, so someone must call every move. This is due to managements failure to share vision, which means focus is missing. Many employers often let their egos control their interactions with their employees. Trust your employees to do their jobs. Make employees feel a team spirit. Have meetings once a month and let employees make suggestions. Give your top performers and dedicated employees pay increases without them having to come to you for them.

Watch What You Do.

Surveillance has been growing at a rapid rate, especially since the disaster of Sept. 11th, 2001. Thousands of individuals who have installed wireless video cameras, intending to increase the security of their homes and/or businesses have actually opened a window of their activities to anyone with a cheap receiver.

The wireless video camera is intended to send its video signal to a nearby base station, which is then viewed on a computer or television. But its signal can be interrupted from more than a quarter mile away by a cheap receiver costing less than $250.00 at most electronics stores. This allows a person to monitor any home with wireless video in use from right down the road.
