New Oil Discovered

From the Emails 020609

Hey folks,

Happy Friday to you. My friend Jane over at API wanted to share with us some great news. She sent in the following with this comment.

"This is just one more reason to open more areas of the Outer Continental Shelf to energy exploration. Who knows how much oil and gas lie off the coasts of Florida…. "

Chevron Announces Oil Discovery in Deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico

SAN RAMON, Calif., Feb. 5, 2009 - Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) today announced a new deepwater oil discovery at the Buckskin prospect located in the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The block is approximately 190 miles southeast of Houston, Texas, and 44 miles west of Chevron's 2004 Jack discovery, which is also in the Lower Tertiary.

The Buckskin No. 1 discovery well encountered more than 300 feet of net pay. The well is located in approximately 6,920 feet of water and was drilled to a depth of 29,404 feet.

More tests are being conducted on data gathered from the discovery well, and additional work at the prospect, located in Keathley Canyon Block 872, will be needed to determine the extent and commercial viability of the discovery.

George Kirkland, Chevron executive vice president, Global Upstream and Gas, said, "This is a very significant discovery in the Lower Tertiary trend, where Chevron is the largest leaseholder. Continuing our success at the Jack well, Buckskin reinforces the trend's potential to provide the U.S. with important new energy supplies."

Repsol, with a 12.5 percent working interest in the prospect, was the operator of the Buckskin discovery well. Chevron, with a 55 percent working interest, will become operator and conduct all future work. Other Buckskin co-owners are Maersk Oil America, with 20 percent, and Samson Offshore Company, with a 12.5 percent working interest.

Chevron Corporation is one of the world's leading integrated energy companies, with subsidiaries that conduct business worldwide. The company's success is driven by the ingenuity and commitment of approximately 62,000 employees who operate across the energy spectrum. Chevron explores for, produces and transports crude oil and natural gas; refines, markets and distributes transportation fuels and other energy products; manufactures and sells petrochemical products; generates power and produces geothermal energy; provides energy efficiency solutions; and develops the energy resources of the future, including biofuels and other renewables. Folks, these are REAL jobs, and REAL solutions to our energy independence. Not pipe dreams of the Obama Administration. Not hopes of a possible, non-existent alternative. Not a way that can and will bankrupt some of America's most valuable resources. Most definitely NOT an undue and "Huge Burden" on tax payers. This is reality.

I agree with Jane. We need to allow more off shore exploration and drilling. We HAVE the resources and the ability to become energy independent. The only thing still standing in our way? Obama and Government. Those beholden to the Kooks.

Dreaming is nice, but it does not solve anything. Time to wake up America, the answers are right in front of you, or under you in this case.

My question is will Obama allow this? There is already talk that the democrats are going to stop drilling off shore.

On a side note, there was a call into Washington Journal on C-span ths morning from a caller who inquired about his energy bill with the local utility. The utility told him that if they are forced to use alternative means and have to buy it the cost to the regular consumer would double.

I ask ""So how does this help citizens in the country"?

It won't do the US a damn bit of good if the government won't let us drill for it.
We need tat oil now. Alternative energy will take years to develop.
Wake up people of the US.

Hey Sam,

"What I've said is that we would put a cap-and-trade system in place that is more -- that is as aggressive if not more aggressive than anybody else's out there, so if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can, it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."

Obama told you that your electric bills will "SKYROCKET."

"When I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know, under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket."

He thinks this is a good thing.

Notice the Gas Going up? It is going up GRADUALLY, Just like Obama likes it.

Obama does not care about the little people. All he cares about is power and staying in it. Power, Control, and of course, money. YOUR money.
