Seriously. Chicago.
Hey folks,
I'm NOT being sarcastic at all. I thought this was great. Here it is.
Time to Heed Our Grandparents' Advice About Money
The Illinois CPA Society Offers Words of Financial Wisdom for Grandparents Day
CHICAGO, Sept. 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- National Grandparents Day, celebrated this year on September 13, was established in the late 1970s in part "to persuade grandchildren to tap into the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide." The Illinois CPA Society suggests adopting attitudes about money from a generation that survived the Great Depression -- especially with recent news from the Census Bureau about a sharp decline in Americans' household incomes. So in honor of our grandparents, the Society shares a few words of their financial wisdom:
Save a Dollar to a Dollar. The idea is to keep putting a dollar next to the dollar you saved and watch them grow. Saving money breeds money. Kids who learn early the pleasure of seeing money grow will always have something to fall back on in the future.
Live Below Your Means. Spend less than one hundred percent of what comes in; in a perfect world that might be saving a third of your income. Keep in mind you don't "need" many of things you think you do.
Always Put in a Full Day's Work. No matter what your current work situation is -- full-time, part-time volunteering, or looking for a job -- give it all you've got. Get up early each day and get working.
Don't be House Poor. If you're contemplating being a home owner, make sure you can afford to furnish your new home, and don't spend all of your money on the house itself. Aside from the fact that it's pleasant to live in a furnished home, smaller mortgage payments might be helpful if you lose your job, take a pay cut or have any other changes in your income.
About the Illinois CPA Society
The Illinois CPA Society, founded in 1903, is the fifth largest state CPA Society in the nation, with more than 24,000 members. It is the premier professional organization that represents CPAs in Illinois. During its over 100 years of existence, the Society has advanced the highest ethical and financial standards of the profession, and has been a leader in educating the public on financial issues.
Now if only we could get our Government to do the same. You think?
