IWA for Sunday 091309

A Female John McEnroe?

Hey folks,

It's Sunday. Time for the IWA. So? What do you do when you do not agree with the Judge in Tennis?

A- You throw your Racket.
B- Smash your Racket.
C- Threaten to kill the Judge.
D- Shrug it off.

Yup. You do A-C. No. Not really. But those out bursts were what made John McEnroe famous. Now we have a Female version? Seems so.

Serena Williams was in a close match when the Line Judge ruled that she stepped out of bounds or something. Instead of shrugging it off and beating her opponent Kim Clijsters, which she should have CLEARLY done, she decided to take a page right out of John McEnroe's Playbook. According to the AP - Bizarre ending to Williams' title defense at Open

NEW YORK — Serena Williams' U.S. Open title defense ended in bizarre, ugly fashion Saturday night, when she was docked a point on match point after yelling and shaking her racket in the direction of an official who called a foot fault.

Williams lost to unseeded, unranked Kim Clijsters 6-4, 7-5 in a taught semifinal.

With Williams serving at 5-6, 15-30 in the second set, she faulted on her first serve. On the second serve, a line judge called a foot fault, making it a double-fault. That made the score 15-40, putting Clijsters one point from victory.

Williams went over and shouted at the line judge, who walked over and reported it to the chair umpire. That led to the chair umpire awarding a penalty point to Clijsters, ending the match.

Rumour has it she threatened to KILL the Judge.

Williams already had been given a code violation warning when she broke her racket after losing the first set.

So there are obvious comparisons here to McEnroe. But why not? He is one of her Heroes. I'm not kidding. According to Newsday.com - Serena Williams melts down, lists John McEnroe as a hero

Crazy TV night at the Open.

Enberg, sitting next to McEnroe, says Serena's meltdown is not what champions do.

Then Serena lists McEnroe first among her tennis heroes.

Then McEnroe says perhaps Serena idolized him for the wrong reasons, and adds he "can't defend the indefensible."

Then Mary Carillo throws in a jab at Serena for the disingenuous, Oscar-worthy performance in her post-match news conference.

Who knew tennis could be more fun than a come-from-behind victory by Southern Cal over Ohio State?

{Laughing} Congratulations Serena, for losing your temper causing you to lose to someone not even on the same PLANET as you in ability, you ARE the Idiot of the Week. Not throw in there a few "Are you kidding me? and Your joking! Right!?" next time and the circle will be complete. {Smile} You also may want to cut back on some Caffeine while you are at it.
