Hey folks,
Welcome to the Big Sunday Edition of the OPNTalk Blog. Glad you checked in. You know, ever Russia knows who to look for when something happens. According to the AP - Russia: Bomb caused train crash that killed 26 By IVAN SEKRETAREV and DAVID NOWAK, Associated Press Writer Ivan Sekretarev And David Nowak, Associated Press Writer – 1 hr 43 mins ago
UGLOVKA, Russia – A powerful homemade bomb sent a high-speed Moscow-to-St. Petersburg train careening off its tracks, Russian officials said Saturday, killing at least 26 people in what officials consider an act of terrorism.
The head of Russia's Federal Security Service, Alexander Bortnikov, said experts found pieces of an explosive device that detonated around 9:30 Friday night as the train raced over it, gouging a five-foot (1.5 meter) crater and strewing smoking wreckage over a rural stretch of track. He said a terrorism inquiry had been opened.
As many as 100 people were left injured by the disaster, officials said, and 18 remained missing Saturday night.
"Indeed, this was a terrorist attack," said Vladimir Markin, a spokesman for the investigative committee of Russia's General Prosecutor's Office, according to Interfax. Bortnikov said the bomb exploded with a force equivalent to 15 pounds (7 kilograms) of TNT.
So they consider this a terrorist attack. They have no problem calling it what it is. Why does our President? Anyway, since they DO call it what it was, who do the Russians look at?
Military analyst Pavel Felgenhauer told APTN that Islamist separatists who operate in the North Caucasus and nationalist groups would naturally fall under suspicion.
Really? Just like us, Russian has had dealings with Muslims before.
Russia has been hit by a number of major terrorist attacks since the 1991 Soviet collapse, including the seizures of the Dubrovka theater in October 2002 and the taking of more than 1,000 hostages in Beslan's School Number One in September 2004.
Both were staged by Muslim separatists from Russia's North Caucasus, who also claimed responsibility for the bombings of the Moscow subway, a rock concert and two airliners.
So they are not afraid to call it what it is, and look for the most likely suspects. I bet you Dollars to Donuts that they are not going to be stopping little old ladies at the Airports. Or just randomly searching vehicles to avoid the PC police. They are going to do whatever they deem necessary to protect THEIR Citizens and interests. Why shouldn't we?
Coming right up today?
I have to mention something here. You know those two banners that you see on the top left? Fluwiki.com and Pathology.org? They were both awarded to me for being an accurate and useful source of information. That means, what you see here, can be trusted and is helpful to those dealing with certain Health issues. I have posted them on every post for the past 7 days, however, I have had to put a disclaimer on a few posts because they have nothing to do with health. I do not claim to nor do I work for Fluwiki.com or Pathology.org . So from this point on, just to avoid any hardship or aggravation of these two fine organizations, I will only add the banners on Health related posts. I thank them both again very much for the recognition, and will continue to visit both on a regular bases, sharing useful information from the Sources. But Politics, Religion, or any other "Hot Button" issues, I will spare them the headaches. {Smile}
Oh, all that in a second. Did you catch this? I do not know how I should feel about this. It's almost time for me to say to you, "I'm going to fill my cup, today's Coffee is, Folgers Gourmet Selections, Carmel Drizzle, that can be found in your local store or at www.folgers.com." Then I would tell you to "go get whatever gogo juice that gets you going, and I'll be right back."
You all know I drink Coffee. I don't just drink it, I live on it. About three pots a day. So when I saw this, Reuters - "Coffee police" fight fraud on shop shelves by Peter Murphy Peter Murphy – Wed Nov 25, 11:57 am ET, I didn't know HOW to react.
GUARAJUBA, Brazil (Reuters) – Brazil's coffee industry is engaged in a tireless battle against rogue roasters who cut corners and costs by bulking up their products with corn, soy or even wood, the ABIC industry association says.
Ewww, REALLY? How hard is it to just pack Coffee Beans? One of the reason I prefer Whole Bean most of the time. I know what I'm getting.
The tainted products have not been known to cause health problems in the consumers who drink them, usually unknowingly, but the industry takes a hard line against the fraudulent practice to protect the beverage's image.
{Laughing} "Usually unknowingly," WHO WOULD DRINK IT KNOWINGLY?
The joint initiative known as the Seal of Purity is run by the Brazilian Coffee Industry Association (ABIC) and involves laboratory testing of coffee picked at random from supermarket shelves. The seal was launched 20 years ago.
"The most common thing is to find wood from the (coffee) tree and shells from the beans but you can also find corn or caramel, which is much cheaper than coffee," said Almir Jose da Silva, ABIC's chairman.
Most of Brazil's exported coffee is shipped as raw beans, confining this problem to products sold at home. Silva said the problem was still small given the huge amount of coffee sold in Brazil, the world's No. 1 coffee grower and No. 2 consumer.
Oh? {Sigh of relief} That's good news. That is one Food Police I would be happy to see. {Smile}
OK folks, Like I said before, be right back.
Peter
