Justice Finally Catching Up To Democratic Rep. William Jefferson

Hey folks,

That’s right, the big news as of yesterday afternoon? Justice finally catching up to Sen. William Jefferson. Talk about an open and HONEST Government? According to Reuters -Democratic congressman indicted in bribery probe By James ViciniMon Jun 4, 7:18 PM ET

Democratic Rep. William Jefferson, accused of hiding $90,000 of intended bribes in his freezer, was charged on Monday with soliciting bribes and paying off a Nigerian official.

The 16-count indictment charges the Louisiana lawmaker with racketeering, soliciting bribes for himself and his family, fraud, money laundering, obstruction of justice, conspiracy and violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Jefferson, 63, a member of Congress since 1991 whose district includes New Orleans, faces a maximum of 235 years in prison if convicted. His lawyer said Jefferson was innocent and would fight the charges.

Even though he was caught on VIDEO taking the bribe, and the cash was found in his freezer.

The investigation has centered on whether Jefferson used his position to promote the sale of telecommunications equipment and services offered by a Louisville-based firm to Nigeria, Ghana, and possibly other African nations in return for stock and cash payments.

Jefferson won re-election to a ninth term in Congress in November, when voters shrugged off the federal bribery investigation.

Because the Mass Media did not really report any of this. Other than a blurb here or there, basically, they were told to ignore it. They did. Too busy talking about sex that never happened.

The indictment provided some new details about the lengthy probe, including commentary from an FBI witness who gave Jefferson $100,000 in cash that was intended as a bribe for the unnamed Nigerian official in 2005.

Reuters reminds us of this little tidbit.

In November, Democrats won control of the U.S. Congress from Bush's Republicans, promising to end a "culture of corruption."

Remember.

Two former associates of Jefferson have pleaded guilty to bribery charges and have been cooperating in the investigation, which included an unprecedented search by FBI agents of his congressional office last year.

Now this is still going to be a battle.

In Congress, House Republican leader John Boehner said he planned to introduce a resolution to have the ethics committee review the case against Jefferson and recommend within 30 days if Jefferson should be removed from office.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, said if the charges are true, "they constitute an egregious and unacceptable abuse of public trust and power." But she cautioned he "must be considered innocent until proven guilty."

{Laughing} OK folks, look for this. They, which includes the Mass Media Drones, will

A- Blame Bush
B- Say it's revenge by Gonazales
C- Down play what he DID DO.
D- Say the timing is such to divert attention from Iraq, or The Immigration mess.

The USA Today reported it this way. USA-Jefferson indicted in bribery probe

The congressman is charged with racketeering, soliciting bribes, wire fraud, money laundering, obstruction of justice, conspiracy and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. He allegedly solicited bribes for himself and his family, bribed a Nigerian government official and set up shell companies to help hide the money, law enforcement officials said at a news conference.

Yet Traitor Pelosi put him in a leadership position in Homeland Security. Duh. You see, it seems Republican corruption equals Evil. Democrat corruption equals "good job".

"The schemes charged are complex. The alleged criminal behavior is spread over time and distance, but the essence of the charges in this case are really rather simple," said Rosenberg.

"Mr. Jefferson corruptly traded on his good office and on the Congress, where he served as a member of the United States House of Representatives, to enrich himself and his family through a pervasive pattern of fraud, bribery and corruption that spanned many years and two continents."

Think he is going anywhere? Get this.

Despite the indictment, Jefferson can continue to serve — and vote. House rules say a lawmaker who is convicted of a crime and sentenced to at least two years in prison "should refrain" from voting in the House. But that's a suggestion, not a requirement.

Now this is all over the place, and should be for days. Let’s see how this one plays out. Do you think this open and honest leadership will do the right thing?
