Immigration Back In News.

Hey folks,

Looks like immigration is making a come back in the news. President Bush called on Congress to get to work on it a few days ago. Presidential candidates are being asked about it. People are renewing their arguments against illegal immigration. We still do not have a secure boarder.

According to The LA Times-Bush unveils new immigration proposal, By Johanna Neuman.

President Bush released a new immigration plan on Monday, a mix of tougher border enforcement and a complicated path to legal status for illegal immigrants that the White House hopes can break the congressional deadlock over the thorny issue.

"It's important that we get a bill done," Bush said at a Border Patrol station, asking Congress to send legislation to his desk this year.

Most of you remember the big march last year and asll the debate over this. Nothing really has changed.

Although the president was vague about the details of his new effort, proposals being discussed among White House officials and GOP lawmakers seem designed to bring recalcitrant Republicans aboard.

For instance, one plan would require illegal immigrants wishing to remain in the United States to return to their country of origin first and pay a $10,000 fine to obtain a three-year work visa. The visas would be renewable, at a cost of $3,500. Also, illegal immigrants who were in the U.S. before June 1, 2006, who paid various fees and fines and who met other criteria, including learning English, eventually could seek to become citizens.

These conditions for visas and citizenship are more stringent than provisions in a Bush-supported bill that the Senate passed last year. But it remains uncertain whether tougher conditions will overcome the objections of those who consider it amnesty to provide any path to citizenship for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S.

Bush said in his Monday speech — as he has throughout the immigration debate — that he opposed amnesty, which he defined as "the forgiveness of an offense without penalty."

We’ll see what happens in congress this time around. Notice that since the LWL took over, no fence? Then the LA Times talks about the march coming up. According to LA Times-Feelings mixed as marches near, by Teresa Watanabe and Francisco Vara-Orta.

City officials are bracing for thousands of marchers to converge Tuesday on Central Los Angeles in two separate May Day rallies for immigration reform and labor rights, gatherings that are stirring anticipation among immigrant-rights advocates but anxiety, even anger, among some business owners.

It’s not just business owners. It’s real Americans. We, regardless of race, have no problem with immigration. What we DO have a problem with, is rewarding those that come here by their first action being breaking our laws. We do not what ANY illegal persons being rewarded for invading this country. According to the AP -Immigration protests planned nationwide, by PETER PRENGAMAN, Associated Press Writer.

Demonstrators demanding a path to citizenship for an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants hope that nationwide marches will spur Congress to act before the looming presidential primaries take over the political landscape.

Marches, meetings and voter registration drives were planned Tuesday from California to New York, a year after 1 million flexed their economic muscle in a nationwide boycott during last year's May 1 activities.

Though this year's turnout will likely be lower, organizers say immigrants feel a sense of urgency to keep immigration reform from getting pushed to the back burner by the 2008 presidential elections.

"If we don't act, then both the Democratic and Republican parties can go back to their comfort zones and do nothing," said Angelica Salas, director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles. "They won't have the courage to resolve a major situation for millions of people."

If they came here illegally, they are NOT Americans. Period. You know, my friend, and our friend here at the OPN, Bill, posted a piece at the NTL. I asked him if he could join us today here and he said yes. So here he is. I’ll let him wrap this up today. I think this pretty much put things in prospective. See you tomorrow.

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop, it was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, and the table -- everywhere. Then some of the birds turned mean: They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud: They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food. After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be -- quiet, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now let’s see, our Government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care and education and allows anyone born here to be a automatic citizen. Then the illegal's came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families: you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room Doctor. Your child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English. Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box. I have to press "one" to hear my bank talk to me in English; and people waving flags other than "Old Glory", are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties. Maybe it's time for the Government to take down the bird feeder.
Bill.
