The Bird Feeder in Real Life.

Hey folks,

Happy Thursday to you. Remember a couple of days ago, our friend Bill posted "The Bird Feeder" If you missed it, or just to save you going back to refresh your memory, here it is again.

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop, it was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, and the table -- everywhere. Then some of the birds turned mean: They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud: They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food. After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be -- quiet, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now let’s see, our Government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care and education and allows anyone born here to be a automatic citizen. Then the illegal's came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families: you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room Doctor. Your child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English. Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box. I have to press "one" to hear my bank talk to me in English; and people waving flags other than "Old Glory", are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties. Maybe it's time for the Government to take down the bird feeder.

If you had any question as to if this simplistic approach would work, check this out. From The Christian Science Monitor -What's US economy's future? Ask illegal immigrants, by Faye Bowers, Staff writer.

Fewer people are trying to sneak across the US-Mexico border. As a result, US border officials are nabbing fewer illegal immigrants – 30 percent fewer for the first quarter of this year compared with the same period a year ago. That's a triumph, says US Customs and Border Protection, of new sophisticated detection equipment as well as 6,000 National Guard troops situated along the 2,000-mile border with Mexico.

But enhanced security may explain only part of the decline. A slowing US economy, resulting in fewer jobs, is discouraging immigrants from slipping into the United States, according to economists at Arizona State University in Tempe. In fact, falling border apprehensions may be an early predictor of where the economy is headed.

If that's true, then Americans should prepare for rough economic times ahead, says Dawn McLaren, a research economist at Arizona State's business school.

For the past decade, Ms. McLaren has been tracking the relationship between border apprehensions and economic growth. Every time apprehensions declined, the economy slowed about 12 months later, she found. "About a year before a recession, or a down cycle, there was a slowdown in the number of arrests" on the border.

I think I’ve heard this before. Take away the jobs, free healthcare, housing, ETC. And they will go away. Also, actually enforce the laws, and they will go away. Now not everyone buys into the whole , no job, healthcare, housing thing. Some think It’s because we HAVE started enforcing the law. I do.

The connection is straightforward: New illegal immigrants hold some of the economy's most marginal jobs, which are some of the first to be left unfilled when a slowdown looks imminent. When jobs are scarce, word quickly gets out to would-be immigrants.

"Because it is difficult and dangerous to cross the border, they're not going to come unless they have a job lined up," McLaren says. "If they get a call from someone saying it's a good time to come, they do. If the caller says wait for the times to get better, they do that."

Some actually see this, as well as enforcing the laws, as bad. This next story is the type that drives me nutty. Forget the fact that anyone that sneaks into this country is a CRIMINAL. Just by them being here, MEANS they are a felon. They CHOSE to take the risk. They CHOSE to come here illegally. NOONE forced them to. But according to some, we need NOT enforce the laws. We need to have COMPASSION on these poor souls. According to the New York Times, As Deportation Pace Rises, Illegal Immigrants Dig In.

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — The day after his wife was deported to their home country, Honduras, Lilo Mancía grieved as though she had died.

Neighbors arrived with doughnuts and juice for their two small children, while Mr. Mancía, an illegal immigrant like his wife, María Briselda Amaya, took telephone calls from relatives and tried not to break down.

"The first thing I thought of was the children," Mr. Mancía, who is fighting his own deportation order, told the visitors gathered in his second floor walkup apartment in New Bedford a couple of weeks ago. "The future we imagined for them, it all collapsed."

WHY wasn’t HE deported as well? That would be one way to keep the family together. It’s a CHOICE. You come here illegally. You get caught. You leave. It is YOUR choice to stay or leave someone behind. Leave together. Stay together. Again, noone forced you to take the chance. Noone forced you to get illegal papers, where you may very well be using someone’s SS number. Noone force you to do this. YOU chose to.

"Grieving as if she had died?" You do not want to take the chance of having your family split up? Do not come here illegally. If you do, leave together. I think Bill is right. It could be that simple.

I would like to see the bird feeder shut down for all but legal citizens of the US.

Me too Irishgodfather. Me too. We are not alone. I even know a growing number of LEGAL immigrants that feel the same way.
