End of Day Round Up, Veto Rhetoric Continues
Hey folks,
This was the day after the now famous veto. The veto by President Bush of the surrender bill put forth by the Traitors in Congress. I find this interesting. Leading up to the vote in the House to override the President’s veto, Traitor Pelosi gave this passionate speech calling for a vote yes, to override. I have the whole thing, but it would be pointless to post it. She ended it with this.
"Let us stop this war without end. I urge a yes vote. Thank you, Mr. Speaker."
Well, that didn’t work. According to the AP -Bush's veto survives House challenge, by DAVID ESPO, AP Special Correspondent. Duh?
Congress failed to override President Bush's veto of legislation requiring the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq on Wednesday, a defeat for anti-war Democrats that triggered immediate talks on a new measure to fund the conflict.
The House vote was 222-203, 62 shy of the two-thirds majority needed to override a veto. With few exceptions, Republicans stood fast with Bush in the wartime clash. The original vote on the bill was 218-208.
Then according to Reuters -Bush, Democrats search for Iraq war compromise, by Steve Holland and Richard Cowan.
Democrats on Wednesday failed to override President George W. Bush's veto of Iraq war funding legislation that would force a troop pullout timetable, prompting the start of tense negotiations on a compromise.
Bush welcomed somber Democratic leaders to the White House shortly after the veto override attempt failed in the House of Representatives and said he was confident an agreement could be found on a bitterly debated $124 billion war funding bill.
Somber? I guess Ted Kenney wasn’t with them. {Smile} But seriously folks, they were defeated. I love this line by President Bush
"Yesterday was a day that highlighted differences," Bush said of Tuesday's veto. "Today is a day where we can work together to find common ground."
Maybe. We’ll have to wait and see. They STILL think they have the power to force you, Mr. President, to relinquish your title of Commander and Chief. Traitor Pelosi was a little more humble. She said to Reuters.
"Whatever our differences, we owe it to the American people to find our common ground. Of course, we must stand our ground if we can't find it. But we must strive to find that common ground," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California.
But what she actually said was.
"Good afternoon. The Congressional leadership just had a positive meeting with President Bush, where he expressed his willingness to work together, in good faith, and take the right approach to come together to find our common ground.
Yesterday, the Congress sent a bill to the President, which we believe honored the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform. It supported our troops, it honored the sacrifices of our veterans, and it held the Iraqis accountable.
The President chose to veto the bill. We made our position clear. He made his position clear. Now it is time for us to try to work together, to come together.
But make no mistake: Democrats are committed to ending this war. And we hope to do so in unison with the President of the United States."
A lot different this evening, you think? After speaking the truth, calling what the Traitors did with this bill unconstitutional, Traitor Reid? According to Reuters.
Reid was dismissive.
"For him to talk about something being unconstitutional, that's a little unusual, and I don't want to get into the other things that have been done with this administration which have clearly been unconstitutional," Reid said.
Oh Blah, blah, blah. Same old, same old. No proof. No evidence. If they had something they could actually use beyond their continuous verbal attacks, don’t you think they would have USED it by now. Of course they would.
No folks, it’s simple. They tried, KNOWING they would fail. Bush kept his promise. Now? Lets get something done. Let’s support the troops. But then again, as I warned you about this before, if they write another bill and another, and drag this out long enough, leaving the troops hanging out to dry the whole time, the money WILL run out. They will have their goal without having to actually cut the funding. They may be plan B. We’ll have to see. The ball is back in their court.
