The Non-Big Story.

Hey folks,

Happy Monday to you. Today, a day after Easter, there may be a really big story out there. Complete with a new word of the day. I just want to warn you that this, it is really a non-story. What I’m I referring to? The word "slaughter."

Yesterday, the Pope, used the phrase "continual slaughter" when referring to the war. This phrase could be repeated over and over again today. The LWL, and some in the Mass Media, will twist this into the big story. They will say that even the Pope is against Bush. That even the Catholic Church is chastising this administration for this "immoral" war.

The problem is, this is a non-story. Two have already started. First, Reuters -Pope, on Easter, laments Iraq "slaughter" by Phil Stewart

Pope Benedict, in his Easter message, made an impassioned call for world peace on Sunday that lamented the "continual slaughter" in Iraq and the growing unrest in Afghanistan.

The 79-year-old Pope made the appeal in his Easter "Urbi et Orbi" (to the city and the world) message to tens of thousands of people gathered in St. Peter's Square as he concluded the second Easter season of his still-young pontificate.

In the speech, televised to millions of viewers in 67 countries at the end of Easter Sunday mass, he listed his worries about problems facing the world, particularly in the Middle East and Africa.

"Nothing positive comes from Iraq, torn apart by continual slaughter as the civil population flees," the Pope said.

Why do I say this is a non-story? One, the Pope will always be anti-war. War is bad. People die and stuff get’s broken. Of corse the biggest religious leader of the world is going to be crying for peace. This is not new. Two, there IS slaughter in Iraq. Terrorists are slaughtering their own people, people are dying. Again, this is not new.

Notice he did not say, America is slaughtering? Notice he did not say Bush caused this? He wants world peace. Always has, always will. But that word, and phrase, will be twisted by some to try to get you to believe he blames Bush and the US for this.

The Pope also lamented the "growing unrest and instability" in Afghanistan, which is bracing for a bloody spring offensive after a resurgent Taliban staged the most intensive year of fighting since they were ousted in 2001.

He condemned terrorism and the use of religion to justify a "thousand faces of violence."

"Peace is sorely needed," the Pontiff said.

You know the funny thing about what you might hear today, is that most of those that will attempt to twist this around to a "message to Bush" type story, do not even LIKE the Pope. Most do not even believe in God. Most do not ever follow what the Word of God says. {If they even know} A lot of them have most likely denounced the Pope in the past for things like Gay Marriage, women roles, birth control, Abortion, whatever. But because what he said yesterday fits their templet, they will use it.

Then you have this by the AFP -Pope decries world's 'suffering' as millions celebrate Easter

Pope Benedict XVI on Sunday lamented "suffering" in the world's strife-torn and poorest regions as millions across the globe marked Easter, the holiest day in the Christian calendar.

"How many wounds, how much suffering there is in the world! Natural calamities and human tragedies that cause innumerable victims and enormous material destruction are not lacking," the head of the Roman Catholic Church said in his traditional Easter address.

"I am thinking of the scourge of hunger, of incurable diseases, of terrorism and kidnapping of people, of the thousand faces of violence which some people attempt to justify in the name of religion ..." he said.

Read that again. "of terrorism and kidnapping of people, of the thousand faces of violence which some people attempt to justify in the name of religion ..." Translation, TERRORISTS.

Here is the spin,

He said "nothing positive comes from Iraq" which is "torn apart by continual slaughter as the civil population flees."

The pope rarely speaks about Iraq, where bloodshed continues despite a massive security operation since February 14 to quell daily violence that has killed thousands in the past year alone.

The Pope did not say anything about the "massive security operation." AFP did. Also just on a side note, notice the wording here? The surge is working. But they say, "where bloodshed continues despite a massive security operation since February 14 to quell daily violence that has killed thousands in the past year alone." This is completely mis-leading. They are trying to get you to believe nothing has changed. The bloodshed is REDUCED and on it way lower. By them saying "despite" and "daily violence that has killed thousands in the past year alone." they combine the two. But the surge has just begun. Some that read this statement will believe that we haven’t made a difference in a year. Which is what they WANT you to believe.

Just remember, whatever you hear out there today, this is REALLY a non-story. Pope against war? Who would have thought it? The Pope blaming America, or President Bush for it? Completely false. Just keep this in perspective. The Looneys will not be. As the old saying goes, if you do not know the truth, you will believe anything.
