In The News Today
Hey folks,
Just one day to go. Tomorrow is FRIDAY! Actually, tomorrow is Friday the13th. But fret not, we get through it together. {Smile} So what is happening in our world today? So many things I want to comment on this morning I could not possibly get to all of it. Maybe I will have more time this weekend again. Here is just a few things.
First up, a follow up on yesterday’s Daily Article. I said,
"Free Speech IS a right in this country. Being offended is not. Was what Imus said stupid? Yes. Does he have a right to say it? Yes. Does the MSNBC, and NBC have a right to suspend, and even fire him? YES. They can fire him for any violation of the polices he agreed to at hiring. But does this mean that we need to censor and infringe upon free speech for all? No."
Some of you out there said I was wrong. One, he doesn’t work for MSNBC. Two, he makes too much money for them to fire him, or cut his show, three, just like Mel Gibson, nothing will happen to him. Other than maybe make him MORE popular. Today? According to Reuters -Imus axed from MSNBC over racial slur
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Syndicated radio and television host Don Imus was dumped from television by MSNBC on Wednesday as major advertisers abandoned him and activists vowed not to rest until he was off the airwaves altogether.
"Effective immediately, MSNBC will no longer simulcast the 'Imus in the Morning' radio program," MSNBC said in a statement, following an earlier announcement he was to be suspended from TV and radio for two weeks starting on Monday.
CBS Radio, which makes millions of dollars annually from the show, said after the MSNBC move it had not yet made a final decision on Imus' fate.
It’s all about money folks. Advertisers start dropping, fear of big time lawsuits, and fear of condoning, in essence, being seen as being racist, they will get him out. Forget the years he’s been on the air. Forget the millions he has made. Forget Free Speech. He’s out. They have the right to do it. They did it. Will CBS Radio follow suit? We will have to wait and see.
Next up? AP -Duke rape case collapses a year later
A few hours earlier, North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper hadn't just dismissed all the remaining criminal charges against Evans, Reade Seligmann and Collin Finnerty. He took the extra step of declaring the players innocent — the victims of a "tragic rush to accuse" by a rogue prosecutor who could be disbarred for his actions
Yes folks, that whole mess, that everyone knew from the beginning was bogus, is over. So how do they get compensated for all that they went through? Does the accuser of the Prosecutor have to paid a price for what they put these boys through? They should. The accuser should also be facing charges.
OH look, more evidence of Global Warming. According to AP -Snow closes schools, grounds flights
CHICAGO - Hundreds of airline flights were grounded Wednesday, a major league baseball game was called and six people were killed in accidents on icy roads as yet another spring snowstorm hit the upper Midwest.
{Laughing} It goes on to say,
Milwaukee smashed a snowfall record for the date with 7 inches. The previous record of 3.2 inches was recorded in 1997.
North Dakota and South Dakota measured snowfalls of about 7 inches.
Six people were killed in two separate accidents in Iowa, including a woman and her two children when their minivan collided with another minivan in the state's south-central region.
Wednesday's Houston Astros at Chicago Cubs game was postponed because of the storm. During the weekend, heavy snow wiped out scheduled Mariners-Indians games for four straight days at Cleveland. The Indians moved their home stand against the Angels to Milwaukee's enclosed field.
In Minnesota, slick roads were the apparent cause of a pileup involving at least 70 vehicles along Highway 169 just southwest of Minneapolis. At least two people were seriously injured, the State Patrol said.
More than two dozen school districts canceled classes Wednesday across southern Minnesota, where as much as 8 inches fell in some areas. More closed in Iowa, where numerous vehicles had slid off slippery highways.
Snow this late is not that unusual, said weather service meteorologist Andrew Krein in Chicago.
"Typically every few years we'll get some snow in April," Krein said. "Snow in April is not unheard of."
Thirteen years ago, in fact, Sioux Falls, S.D., got 10 inches of snow on April 28.
I’ll just leave that alone for right now. {Laughing again}
Then this story from AFP- Bush stands firm against US stem-cell bill
The US Senate Wednesday voted in favor of funding stem-cell research on human embryos, but President George W. Bush promptly vowed to veto the bill which has incensed Christian conservatives.
The Senate approved legislation to lift Bush's restriction on using federal funds for stem-cell research on human embryos, but the president released a statement confirming his intention to veto the bill.
"This bill crosses a moral line that I and many others find troubling," Bush said. "If it advances all the way through Congress to my desk, I will veto it."
"I believe this will encourage taxpayer money to be spent on the destruction or endangerment of living human embryos -- raising serious moral concerns for millions of Americans."
It will be the second time he has exercized this right to block a proposal to loosen restrictions on the practice. The Senate voted 63-34 for the draft law -- short of the two-thirds majority that would be needed to reverse a veto.
One has to ask WHY would they do this? Why would they waste even more time on something that they KNOW for a fact will amount to nothing? That’s the answer folks. They KNOW it will amount to nothing. They KNOW it will not pass. They do not have to take responsibility for it. They do not have to actually DO anything. All they are doing IS wasting time. They do not WANT to do anything. Just wait for the coming elections. {Sigh}
More on some of these in the future I bet. Along with Pelosi refusing to meet with OUR president, yet saying that she has no problem meeting with Little Hitler. I’m sure we will be discussing Traitor Pelosi more in depth soon.
Anyway, Have a great Thrusday, and I’ll see you on Friday the 13th. We can face the spooks together.
Peter

Have you noticed that the politicians are lining up to criticise Imus?
I heard that Hillary had said something and now I hear that Obama has come out against Imus.
Well the thought has occurred to me that both are pandering for the black vote.
Hillary comes across as hypercritical since she has said racist remarks herself.
