Just My Thoughts {2}

The Grey Area,

Hey Folks,

I was debating someone who said, "You cannot say that. There is no Black and White anymore. We live in a shade of grey."

I both agree and dis-agree. We DO live in the grey, and it continues to grow every day. This does not take away from the fact that black is BLACK and white IS WHITE. The grey area doesn’t change wrong to right or right to wrong. It is simply the way we see it.

Lying is bad, wrong , and always black. Lie to saves one’s feelings? Grey.

Steeling is bad, wrong, and always black. Steel to feed your family? Grey.

Violence is bad, wrong, and always black. Meet violence with violence? Grey

Murder is bad, wrong, and most DEFINITELY black.. Murder to prevent murder? Grey.

I remember shows like the "A-Team", on TV. Millions of bullets flying and no-one killed. Then came the "Terminator". I remember "Don’t worry be happy" as much as I would rather not. Then came bitches and hoes. I remember watching wrestling growing up. WWE has always been like viewing a mico-version of society. There were good guys, and bad guys. The good guys always won. Now? A guy who drinks beer, more beer, and more beer, gives his fans the middle finger, and beats up his boss every chance he gets, is the GOOD guy.

We would never even think about allowing a young girls to go out of the house with shorts too short, or shirts too tight. Now, more skin the better. I remember having to sneak a peek at something like Playboy to see a naked lady, then came cable, the internet, the new style of cloths, so on so forth. I remember when a little girl would be embarrassed if a male family member walked in on her in her underwear, then came them going out in them, or without them, whichever being the case. I remember when holding hands was a big deal. Now simulated sex on the school dance floor. I remember "never talk to strangers." Then came the internet. I remember sex ed in 6th grade, then came passing out condoms. I remember it was a big deal to go down the street un- chaperoned, then came parents dropping their kids off at the mall for hours.

Yes we live in a grey area. But WE created that grey. By allowing more and more things to be pushed further and further from black toward white, we have created a false reality. A reality where we say,,,"Well, you know, it’s not that bad." Or we give it new names like a "white" lie, or style, self preservation, or hip hop, social change, or political correctness. But the truth is BLACK is still black and WHITE is still white.

What truly amazes me is when the outcome of something takes place which is inevitable due to the action, and we wonder why. Why would this happen? Because the cause and effect of said action is still in place. We can call it OK, or update it, but the bottom line is still, cause and effect.

The women’s liberation movement is another such topic. We have come so far in society to say, (Not saying I dis-agree) that women are equal in every way as a man, then some women wonder why, with a lot of male bashing going on from the extremists, a male is failing to learn manners, (Standing up when a woman enters a room, holding the door, or curbing language), or STILL the proper way to treat women. Now with girls jumping guys, all the stuff in music, TV, movies, and in society, they wonder why sometimes young men do not know where the line is. The line falls into the grey area. The sexual harassment law is a perfect example. If the receiver likes you it is flirting, it they do not like you it’s sexual harassment.

I do not know about you folks, but I personally prefer the black and white approach. Just because something has fell into the ever increasing grey area, doesn’t mean it is now good. Just because something is deemed politically correct, doesn’t meant it’s right.
Yes, I CAN say this or that is wrong. You can say that this or that is sometimes right and sometimes wrong. In this false reality, we may both be correct.
Peter
