North Korea Claims Nuke Test Successful

That’s right folks,

If you remember, just two days ago, if you even saw it with the whole Foley thing, the UN and Security Council warned them not to conduct any tests. Just like they warned them not to test long rang missiles which they also did in the past. On June 19 and 20, I talked about this. I talked about how the UN is worthless in this whole thing.

Well they did it again. They were warned, and as of two minutes ago, this AP article reports that they have conducted the test,

"North Korea faced a barrage of condemnation and calls for retaliation Monday after it announced that it had set off a small atomic weapon underground, a test that thrust the secretive communist state into the elite club of nuclear-armed nations.

The United States, Japan, China and Britain led a chorus of criticism and urged action by the United Nations Security Council in response to the reported test, which fell one day after the anniversary of reclusive North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's accession to power nine years ago."

I told you they do not care about the UN, just like "Little Hitler", and Iran do not care about the UN, because they "warn", maybe even threaten, then do nothing.

"White House spokesman Tony Snow called for "immediate actions to respond to this unprovoked act" and said that the United States was closely monitoring the situation and "reaffirms its commitment to protect and defend our allies in the region."

South Korea's geological institute estimated that the test's power was equivalent to 550 tons of TNT, far smaller than the two nuclear bombs the U.S. dropped on Japan in World War II.

The U.S. Geological Survey said it recorded a magnitude-4.2 seismic event in northeastern North Korea. Asian neighbors also said they registered a seismic event, but only Russia said its monitoring services had detected a nuclear explosion.

"It is 100 percent (certain) that it was an underground nuclear explosion," said Lt. Gen. Vladimir Verkhovtsev, head of a Defense Ministry department, according to Russia's ITAR-Tass news agency."

Now Japan is leading the way in condemning North Korea, as it had before. China now is expressing "resolute opposition" and is calling for North Korea to return to talks. The UN? I am willing to bet they do nothing again. Oh they imposed sanctions before. Basically no weapons to or from North Korea. That worked? But now that they have actually tested a nuclear weapon? I guess we will have to wait and see.

It should also be interesting to see how much press this gets. You know, the mass media and the LWL will have to divert attention away from their attacks, and the Foley mess, to report it. Yesterday the front page of many news papers was STILL Foley. I’m sure they will find a way to blame Bush for this one as well.
