Nature, Science, Health

Hey folks,

Did you see the new report out there? It seems that we are a breath away from the possibility of a VERY REAL "Minority Report" type of thing. Seems that scientistcan now read your mind. Get this,

Now Haynes and his colleagues have for the first time revealed that such wishes in the brain can get read, using a new combination of advanced brain scanners and sophisticated computer algorithms.

How do they do this?

The researchers observed brain activity during these experiments using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). They proved able to recognize a person's intentions with 70 percent accuracy based solely on their brain activity, even before the volunteers had seen the numbers and started to perform the calculation.

According to Doctor Haynes, this does have ethical issues

"This certainly raises the ethical questions of whether or not one should be allowed to read concealed thoughts in other people's brain activity, or whether or not that would violate mental privacy," he added. "It's not necessarily something you'd want at, say, a job screening."

I can see it now {Laughing} Congress in session debating the right to "mental privacy."

When I saw this, the thoughts that were filling my head, that you are not allowed to read unless I give you written permission, was why. Then, the why grew. I started thinking about all the time we, as the human race, have complete screwed up and messed with things that we SHOULD just leave alone.

Take our health for instance. We have a choice all through our lives on how we live. What we eat. What we do. People seem to forget, I am guiltier than most, we only have one body. We only have a VERY short, in relative terms, time here.

It is human nature to attempt to improve ourselves. To live longer. To live better. But are we actually harming ourselves in the long run? Take our food enhancement for example. This is not new. I know , I’ve brought this up a few times in the past, but think about this. You have a cow in the field. You have milk. Kill the cow, you have meat. No more milk, but you do have meat. But we decided that we need to improve that. So we started adding hormones, preservatives, and a lot of other junk in it. Look at our kids now-a-days. It has had an effect on the human body.

We can no longer plant seeds, harvest, and eat. Now we create the food we eat. From 2004,

From developing low carb wheat, to fruit filled with vaccines, scientists are altering the foods we eat to help improve our health.

"We're looking at increasing the protein in wheat and reducing the carbohydrates in the products and that seems to be what the consumer wants today," said Bonnie Fernandez, of the California Wheat Commission. "We can do that with formulation of ingredients right now, but in the long run the science would be able to do that in the wheat kernel itself."

Biotechnology is revolutionizing the foods we eat. Scientists have already found a way to produce tomato plants containing three times the normal level of lycopene, a known cancer fighter.

So what is my problem with all this. WHY? Are we so arrogant that we think we know better? That natural foods are lacking? Or could it be the fact that there is nearly NO natural foods left? Like me, not everyone agrees with this.

But as wonderful as this all may sound, biotechnology also has some very vocal critics who insist scientists should not mess with Mother Nature.

"The genes they're adding to these vegetables and tomatoes, they have no idea where they will land in our genetic sequence so that could wreak havoc on the actual workings of the plant from nutrition to creation of new toxins to new diseases," said Ryan Zinn, of the Organic Consumers Association.

"The reality is we've been messing with Mother Nature for at least 10,000 years," Newell-McGloughlin said. "Any crop plant that you eat today is not natural, it is being the subject of major selection and cross breeding."

If we are going to talk about science, nature, and health, we MUST also talk about the manmade drugs we put in our bodies for various reasons. STOP reading right now. Go wherever it is you have a TV. Turn it on and wait until the annoying show goes to a commercial. I would be willing to bet that within the next 5 to 10 minutes, a drug commercial will come on. Watch it.

I do not care what it’s for. Hypertension, arthritics, diarrhea, depression, {Did you catch the new report that anti-depressants are causing an increased risk in suicides?} asthma, WHATEVER. I do not care what it’s for. It doesn’t matter. Watch the side effects. It will amaze you.

"Take this drug to help you think clearly. May cause diarrhea, stomach pain, sleepiness, heart disease, stroke, ETC." Yeah, but hey, you will think clearer.

Nature has the answer for nearly all that ails you. Yet we call THAT alternative medicine. But manmade chemicals and combinations of drugs, we call that healthcare. Whenever I start feeling a cold coming on, I drink a gallon of orange juice in two days. Most of the time I feel better. It doesn’t set in. I feel depressed? I go outside. I get fresh air. I watch nature at it’s best. {Sorry to my friends up north right now. What is it like nine feet of snow now? Music!} I listen to music. WHATEVER music you listen to. Listen to it the next time you start feeling depressed or vexation, listen. Music is more powerful than you can possibly image.

We need to think about these things folks. Think about the things you put into your body. Ask WHY. Look into "alternative" natural methods of whatever it is you are doing, from eating, to healing. Believe it or not, nature is good.

Oh yeah, beware of the thought police. For REAL.
Peter
