Tell Me Again There Is No Real Threat

I guess these men were just misunderstood. Just isolated incidents.

Hey folks,

You know the story. This time, no TV cameras. No Host asking "What were you thinking?" This time, just the Cops and the bad guys.

Sun Sentinel - Officials nab 17 men for soliciting sex from minors by Joel Marino South Florida Sun-Sentinel 6:35 PM EST, December 15, 2008

Authorities have arrested 17 men from across South Florida after a seven month-long operation where officials say the men solicited sex from or traveled to have sex with minors.

The multi-agency operation, dubbed "2 Young 2", nabbed eight men from Broward County; seven from Miami-Dade County; and two from Palm Beach County, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. The oldest suspect is 59 and the youngest 19.

Officials say 15 of the suspects traveled to prearranged locations to meet up with the children they thought they'd met online; once there, sheriff's deputies and officers with the U.S. Marshals Service arrested them.

Authorities arrested two other men on warrants, the Sheriff's Office said.

Now back on November 24, 2008 I posted this. Kids and the Internet. That prompted a follow up on December 2, 2008, Follow Up On Kids and The Internet . It started a pretty good conversation here and elsewhere, but some people actually believe the "Experts" that there really is a low threat of this type of thing happening. That this type of thing is rare.

Well, as pcpandora pointed out, like the NBC specials SHOW, and as we just read happening just in the last couple of days, I would beg to differ. The facts just do not pan out to "No real threat." The facts say there IS.

With the Holiday Season upon us, we will have kids and those who wish to hurt them, with a lot more free time on their hands. It is YOUR job as a Parent, to PROTECT them. Your kids that is. Even if that means protecting themselves from themselves.
