IWA For Sunday 101407

Hey folks,

It’s SUNDAY! Time for the IWA. Normally, I would take some time to set it up for you. Tell you a little story, or lay the foundation for the article or person I’m about to award. Not today. The very first paragraph in the Miami Herald this morning, tells you ALL you need to know.

VATICAN CITY -- A Vatican official suspended after being caught on hidden camera making advances to a young man said in an interview published Sunday that he is not gay and was only pretending to be gay as part of his work.

Yup!

In an interview with La Repubblica newspaper, Monsignor Tommaso Stenico said he frequented online gay chat rooms and met with gay men as part of his work as a psychoanalyst. He said that he pretended to be gay in order to gather information about "those who damage the image of the Church with homosexual activity."

{Laughing} Are you serious?

Vatican teaching holds that homosexual activity is a sin.

"It's all false; it was a trap. I was a victim of my own attempts to contribute to cleaning up the Church with my psychoanalyst work," La Repubblica quoted Stenico as saying.

So not only does he appear to be in violation of the Priesthood, he is also a psychobabbloligist.

Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi said Saturday that the monsignor had been suspended pending a Vatican investigation. Stenico is a top official in the Vatican's Congregation of the Clergy.

Glad to see there are getting tough on this. {Sigh}

The Vatican after acted Vatican officials recognized Stenico's office in the background of a television program on gay priests that was broadcast on Oct. 1 on La7, a private Italian TV network. Stenico was secretly filmed making advances to a young man and asserting that gay sex was not sinful.

In the Repubblica interview, Stenico said he had met with the young man and pretended to talk about homosexuality "to better understand this mysterious and faraway world which, by the fault of a few people - among them some priests - is doing so much harm to the Church."

How in the Blue Hell do you “Pretend to talk about homosexuality?” You either do, or don’t. We are “talking” about it right NOW.

He said he had never been gay and was heterosexual, but remained faithful to his vow of celibacy.

If you are faithful to NOT having sex of ANY KIND, how are you either?

Italy's Sky TG24 said Stenico had written a letter to his superiors with a similar defense.

Calls to Stenico's home and Vatican office went unanswered Sunday.

Well, maybe he’ll pretend to talk to someone about this “faraway world” later on. You know, as a side note folks, I guess it is really bad and cause for suspension in the Catholic Church if you are caught TALKING about it. If you actually DO it, especially with underage males, then you get transferred? Maybe he would have been better off NOT pretending.

Congratulations Monsignor Tommaso Stenico, for your make-believe discussion of this far away world, and not informing your Superiors as to what your “true” mission and intentions were, you ARE the Idiot of the Week. If for no other reason than your excuse itself. If you want, we can pretend to talk about another faraway world. I am a big Star Wars fan. I’m not sure about C3PO, but I’m pretty sure that Darth Vader was not gay.
Peter
