IWA For Sunday 011710

Is there any doubt?

Hey folks,

It's time to wrap things up today with the IWA. This is one of those weeks that I have to ask, is there any doubt? Seriously. Can there be any other Idiot winner this week?

Haiti get's hit with a 7.0 Earthquake. Countless after quakes. Schools, hospitals, hotels and even the Presidential Palace lay in ruins, with people caked in blood and dust pleading for help. Casualty figures are still impossible to calculate, but Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive told CNN the final death toll from the quake could be "well over 100,000."

So with all this, our Idiot says this.

Of course, NOW, CBN is attempting to do damage control. they said this.

Statement Regarding Pat Robertson's Comments on Haiti

CBN.com – VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., January 13, 2010 -- On today’s The 700 Club, during a segment about the devastation, suffering and humanitarian effort that is needed in Haiti, Dr. Robertson also spoke about Haiti’s history. His comments were based on the widely-discussed 1791 slave rebellion led by Boukman Dutty at Bois Caiman, where the slaves allegedly made a famous pact with the devil in exchange for victory over the French. This history, combined with the horrible state of the country, has led countless scholars and religious figures over the centuries to believe the country is cursed. Dr. Robertson never stated that the earthquake was God’s wrath. If you watch the entire video segment, Dr. Robertson’s compassion for the people of Haiti is clear. He called for prayer for them. His humanitarian arm has been working to help thousands of people in Haiti over the last year, and they are currently launching a major relief and recovery effort to help the victims of this disaster. They have sent a shipment of millions of dollars worth of medications that is now in Haiti, and their disaster team leaders are expected to arrive tomorrow and begin operations to ease the suffering.

Is it true? Well, According to Andrew Apter, professor of History and Anthropology at UCLA.

Part of the revolution mythology is that one of the revolution leaders sacrificed a pig in Bois Caïmin in a voodoo ceremony and made a contract with Petwo [Haitian voodoo spirits]. It may or may not be true, but to call that a pact with the devil is a gross misrepresentation of what voodoo is. It's about anything but the devil. He's imposing an evangelical religious order on a much more sophisticated practice, and he's turning it into a cheap invocation of Satanism.

Let's say they DID. We are talking about 1700s. Those that MAY have, are LONG dead. The majority of Haiti IS Christian. Remember the story of Saul? Paul, AKA Saul of Tarsus, was equal to Hitler in every way. Yet, through the Grace of God, he became Paul, who wrote most of the New Testament. Forgiveness and the Grace of God is beyond Human comprehension. Who are we to say they can not be forgiven? Who is to say they have not been? I was not there way back when. Neither was Pat. I know he is old, but uh? Let's just keep them in our Prayers and for those that can, let's help. We can discuss WHY it may have happened AFTER.

To make such an idiotic statement, while sitting on your nice cushy couch collect another few Million, while nearly a hundred thousand people have died, even more than that have lost EVERYTHING, is just asinine. You Sir, are asinine. Congratulations Pat Robertson, you ARE the Idiot of the Week. Maybe someone should start proofreading whatever you are going to say before you say it? You seem to be sticking your foot in your mouth more and more everyday. As for me and mine, we will be praying for them, not BLAMING them. We'll leave that to you.

Thank you Anonymous,

Welcome to the OPNTalk Blog. Thank you for the history. I mean that.

Now I DO believe in the Devil. I have faith that there is a God, Jesus did come and die for us all, and Lucifer really did, and does still exist. I also have a deeper understanding of the Word than a lot of people. I truly believe that People's own Freewill is more detrimental to them than the Satan ever will be.

Whenever we have something happen in personal lives or on a larger scale such as Haiti, people are quick to blame the Devil. Truth is, the Devil has been blamed for things that would even make him blush. He can do NOTHING. He can whisper in your ear, show you things, and lie to you telling you this or that will happen if you do this or that. He will also tell you there is no God. Therefore, no God, No judgement, no consequences for your actions. But it is YOU that ultimately carry out whatever it is. Not the Devil.

Then you have this. Natural occurrences. It is Natural to have Hurricanes. They are call Natural occurrences until they hit populated area's then they are called Natural Disasters. Only because people have chosen to be in the known path, or area where these Natural Occurrences take place. Florida Hurricanes, California Earth quakes. Haiti?

Now could someone make a pack with the Devil. Of course. Did Haiti? Perhaps. I'm not really arguing the point. But for Pat Robertson to come out and make such a statement while they are still digging out the dead, is, well, insensitive to say the least. If reeks with "I told you so?" Or "Hey, this is your own fault." and that is not productive. It happened. Still to this day, I have not heard anything about my friend Wilbert who was there when this happened. We need to come together and HELP those in Haiti in this very dark time. After that, I have no problem discussing their Pact with the Devil, Voodoo, or anything else. But let's HELP those in need first, THEN discuss theories as to why.

How come all these supernatural religious things like Jesus awaking from the dead and Creole spirits possessing bodies - these fantastical tales - all happened so long ago? Before there was a better understanding of how things actually work and an understanding that some things are just not possible. This conversation is just silly.

And as for Pat. 200 million people world wide viewed at least one segment on CBN in 2000. 200 million kooks (as you like to call them). That is one scary number.
