We are not ready to abandon Oil and Natural Gas
Hey folks,
In today's From the Energy Front, we see signs of the times. We see that we truly are NOWHERE near being in a place to abandon our own resources and that of which makes both our and the WORLD Economy work. According to USA Today - Wind-energy industry lost factory jobs despite stimulus By Julie Schmit, USA TODAY
Federal stimulus funds rescued the U.S. wind-power industry from what could have been a disastrous 2009, but it still lost highly sought-after manufacturing jobs, according to a trade association report out Tuesday.
Nationwide, the wind-power industry employs about 85,000 people — the same number as a year ago after it gained 13,000 manufacturing jobs in 2008, says Denise Bode, CEO of the American Wind Energy Association.
If this was any other company, the LWL {Left Wing Loons} would be calling for the Head of the company. Obama would be looking to fire the CEO, and take over the industry. But this is the highly sought after Alternative Energy industry. You know, what we should give up all we know works FOR.
Early last year, the association had expected wind-power development to drop 50% in year-end levels compared with 2008, given the dearth of financing for wind-farm projects.
But 2009 federal stimulus dollars, reaching $2.25 billion for dozens of wind projects and wind turbine-component manufacturers, buffeted the recession's impact, Bode says.
"The stimulus was a real spur to development," she says. "We saved half an industry."
Without it it would have been gone. Why? BECAUSE IT DOESN'T WORK!
Nationwide, the wind industry last year added a record 9,900 megawatts of new generation capacity, enough to power the equivalent of 2.4 million homes, the association says.
Where? Where are all these 2.4 million homes?
Only 38 wind turbine-component manufacturing plants were built or expanded last year, down from 55 in 2008. In addition, several wind-turbine companies announced layoffs last year, including at plants in Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Nebraska.
Bode estimates that the wind industry lost between 1,500 and 2,000 manufacturing jobs last year but gained an equal number in wind-farm construction and maintenance.
Without the stimulus funds, "things would've ground to a halt," says Gary Hardke, president of the San Diego-based Cannon Power Group. It has installed 400 megawatts of wind power in Washington state in the past 18 months and secured $19 million in stimulus funds. Without the funds, the project "would've stalled out," Hardke says.
{Sigh} Folks, this is more Government intervention in FAILED projects. Let them fail, and let's look in another direction. Even T. Boone Pickens, once a huge proponent of Wind Farms has backed away and is NOW in Natural Gas. He found this to be a failure, and Billionaires to not stay Billionaires investing in failed projects. Maybe our Government should learn the same lesson?
If Wind was the answer, we would know EXACTLY where these 2.4 Million homes were. We would have all the information of how much this is better than Oil or Natural Gas. We would have MORE jobs created to keep up with the skyrocketing demand. Not job cuts. We would have the Government imposes higher taxation, not bailing them out. We would have MORE plants popping up all over the place.
Truth is, it doesn't work. Not on a mass scale that it would need to to justify it's existence. Oh you may be able to have a little Windmill in your back yard, along with some Solar Panels, and be happy and live off the grid, but here are the problems with this.
You have to invest in it. If you have the money GREAT. To rid yourself of "Evil Oil and Natural Gas" you will have to do this.
Then walk or ride a bike, or invest in a TOTAL AV. A Vehicles that uses no oil in the engine, no gas whatsoever. Do not go to far, it may die. Only plug it in at your own house to avoid a power company that uses Oil to charge it.
Find a way to dispose of all your garbage. Do not let those Evil Garbage Companies drive up to you house to collect it. They use gas and oil. Then they pollute to planet with burning and land fills.
Grow your own food. Do not go to stores. They are not off the grid. Think of all those Planes, Ships, and Trucks that deliver to them. Not to mention the power they use just to be open for you.
Make your own cloths. Same reason.
Do not use a computer, TV, Radio, or even read a News Paper. They all have to be manufactured somewhere, and delivered.
Where did that money come from in your pocket? How was that made? Where did you get it from? Is your Job "Environmentally Friendly?"
Where did your HOUSE come from?
Oh, and do not use plates, silverware, and if you a Female, MOST Makeup.
Now picture convincing EVERYONE to do this.
Now if we could just figure out how to stop those damn cows from farting. Then again, we better figure out how to stop EXHALING while we are at it.
Then again, if I'm forced to work next to someone who is engaged in an activity that is detrimental to my health, you know, breathing, according to the EPA that is a pollutant, do I have the right to sue?
You see how completely ridiculous this is right? There is no Man Made Global Warming. There is no threat to the planet. It really is just that simple.
Now do I feel we can, in the future, find ways to be more "Environmentally Friendly?" Yes. Do I think that in the future we could find better alternatives? Yes. Can we abandon Oil and Natural Gas to get there? No. We can do what we should have done a long time ago. Drill here, Drill NOW, and make our energy affordable to all, and continue to work towards Alternatives at the same time. But to abandon all for this quest is naive to say the least and doomed to failure.
