HS For Sunday 111107

Hey folks,

In the interest an observance of Veteran's Day, I will suspend the normal IWA award for the day. Our brave men and women all through history, have fought and died for the Right to be an Idiot in this country. So I'm give the Idiots a break today. {Smile}

In the Health and Science segment this week, I caught this article that is starting to make some noise out there. At first, I was blown away that it was coming from the UN. It's something that MOST people and nearly EVERY nation can agree with. But then I read between the lines. Here is what I mean. According to the AP - UN report: Human cloning ban needed.

The international community faces a stark choice: outlaw human cloning or prepare for the creation of cloned humans, U.N. researchers said Saturday.

Now this sounds like Great news. After all, most ARE against this.

Previous attempts to reach a binding worldwide treaty foundered over divisions on whether to outlaw all cloning or permit cloning of cells for research.

The best solution may be to ban human cloning, but to allow countries to conduct strictly controlled therapeutic research, including stem cell research, according to the report from the Japan-based United Nations University Institute for Advanced Studies.

Here it is. Here is the catch, and the real reason behind it. but to allow countries to conduct strictly controlled therapeutic research, including stem cell research. This is something that most are against as well. As a matter of fact, it's not needed. Back on June 10, also in the H.S. segment, I posted this fact. H.S. More Evidence, The Need Of Embryonic Stem Cells NOT Needed

In a leap forward for stem cell research, three independent teams of scientists reported Wednesday that they have produced the equivalent of embryonic stem cells in mice using skin cells without the controversial destruction of embryos.

If the same could be done with human skin cells — a big if — the procedure could lead to breakthrough medical treatments without the contentious ethical and political debates surrounding the use of embryos.

NO ONE would have a problem with this. Well, almost no one. I’m sure the Liberal would still have a problem with it. Even if NOT needed, they will fight for the continuation of embryonic stem cell research, because in their warped little minds, they would see a doing away with this equal to an attack on the fictitious "Women’s right to Chose."

Back to the article.

Almost all countries oppose human cloning and more than 50 nations have introduced laws banning it. But lack of binding global legislation gives scientists an opening to create human clones in countries where bans do not exist.

"Failure to outlaw reproductive cloning means it is just a matter of time until cloned individuals share the planet," said Brendan Tobin, a human rights lawyer who co-authored the report.

"If failure to compromise continues, the world community must accept responsibility and ensure that any cloned individual receives full human rights protection," he said.

I feel like I'm watching a SciFi show.

Cloning research proponents argue it offers great hope for producing replacement tissue and the potential for a cure for diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and diabetes.

No it really doesn't. There are much more effective and proven methods that work. Stem Cells and Cloning have shown NO possibilities. NO positive evidence at all. The exact opposite actually.

The report recommends permitting cloning cells for research — but not cloning aimed at duplicating a person or animal . It also calls for strict controls to prevent the uncontrolled production and destruction of embryos.

But it ALLOWS for Embryonic Stem Cell research. This is what I mean folks. It SOUNDS good. Banning of Human Cloning. But this is from the joke that is the UN. They can now say, we are banning Human Cloning, we are compromising, but what it really is, is a why to encourage Embryonic Stem Cell research. Well, that's not as bad as Cloning right? Get the point?
