Eggs, Yolks and All, Are As Good For You As Apples

Eggs and Coffee? I should live long and have a sound mind.

Hey folks,

For years there has basically been two groups. Those that HATE Coffee, and tell you, you will DIE, or become sick, if you drink it. Another that says Coffee is good, and has many Health Benefits. I prefer to agree with the latter.

For years we have also been told that the Whites of the Egg we love so much are OK, but you better not eat the Yolks. They are EVIL and will raise your Cholesterol, and increase your risk of Heart Disease. They have Products out there that even take all the work away from you. You can buy Egg Whites only. You can order Egg White Omelets. I know people who do. As for me? I love the Yolk. I love ordering Sunny Side Up or Over Easy nine out of ten times I eat Breakfast out. I MAKE Sunny Side Up Eggs and Hard Boiled Eggs all the time.

So seems that all those years of people skipping the Yolk, was wasted. Not only is the Yolk NOT bad for you, seems that a whole cooked Egg is actually as Healthy for you as an Apple. Yup. An Apple. Are you buying this? According to Shine - Are Egg Whites Healthier Than Whole Eggs? By Details Magazine Posts By Details Magazine | Healthy Living – Thu, Mar 29, 2012 2:21 PM EDT by Mike Dawson. I love the way he wrote this, by the way.

The yolk has been the enemy of breakfast for years-but no more, my egg-white-omelet-ordering friends.

Like most of you, I ditched the yolk thinking I was lowering my cholesterol, helping my ticker, and staying lean. But it turns out those yellow-less free-ranges were doing more harm than good. Here are three reasons to go for yolk (boo!) when you eat eggs.

First, assuming you are not obese, eat relatively well, and work out at least a little, a few or more whole eggs a week aren't going to lift your bad cholesterol levels.

Second, whole eggs are packed with protein, good fats, vitamins, and nutrients that have been proven to help boost your brain. Some studies suggest they may even guard against dementia.
Hey, so does Coffee. Eggs and Coffee? I should live long and have a sound mind.

Third, last year a study at the University of Alberta, home to one of the world's leading food-science programs, discovered that cooked whole eggs, yolk and all, are equal to apples in their antioxidant potency, and these robust antioxidant properties may actually help ward off heart disease and cancer.

Time to rethink that brunch order, buddy.
{Laughing} So have at it my Friends. Order those Eggs, yolks and all, a big cup of Coffee, and enjoy. You are doing your body and apparently Mind good. Be right back.

Can Coffee Help Prevent Type 2 Diabetes?

Well, here we go again.

Hey folks,

Lets see. Coffee =

Good at preventing some Cancers.
Reduce the odds of having a Stroke.
May reduce Blood Pressure.

But WAIT.....

Coffee may CAUSE Cancer.
May RISE Blood Pressure.
You MAY hear Voices in your head.

The Stroke thing?

Jury is still out on that one. For now. My point is, one day it is GOOD for you, the next it's BAD. Now we learn that Coffee may actually help Prevent Type 2 Diabetes? According to Health Day - Can Coffee Really Thwart Type 2 Diabetes?By By Serena Gordon

THURSDAY, Jan. 19 (HealthDay News) -- Your morning "cup of Joe" may do more than deliver the jolt you need to get going -- it may also help you stave off type 2 diabetes, a new study suggests.

But, before you pour yourself a second cup know this: The study authors said their research was done with cell cultures and there's no proof yet that coffee has any ability to keep type 2 diabetes at bay.
{Laughing} So WHY DO THE STORY!?!?!? Why publish the Study? I love it when I read stupid stuff like this. The Headline: "Can Coffee Really Thwart Type 2 Diabetes?" Second Paragraph? No proof whatsoever if it will or won't?

Past research has suggested a link between coffee and a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, and now Chinese researchers behind the new study think they may know why that may be so. They found three major compounds in coffee that may provide potentially beneficial effects: caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid and caffeine.
But wait,,, It DOES?

"These findings suggest that the beneficial effects of coffee consumption on type 2 diabetes mellitus may be partly due to the ability of the major coffee components and metabolites to inhibit the toxic aggregation of hIAPP [human islet amyloid polypeptide]," Ling Zheng, professor of cellular biology at Wuhan University in China, and colleagues wrote.

Human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) is a substance normally found in the pancreas, according to background information in the study. Sometimes, however, abnormal protein deposits (toxic aggregation) arise from hIAPP. These abnormal deposits (amyloid fibrils) are found in people with type 2 diabetes, the study authors said.

The researchers wondered if blocking formation of these deposits could help prevent or treat type 2 diabetes, the more common form of the blood sugar disorder. The next step would be to find a substance that might prevent these deposits.

In 2009, a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine reported that people who drank the most coffee seemed to have the lowest risk of developing type 2 diabetes. That study reported that with each cup of coffee consumed daily, the risk of type 2 diabetes dropped by 7 percent.
OK. Lets see, average of 12 Cups per Pot, Three to four Pots a Day. I consume somewhere around 36 to 48 cups a DAY? Well, ONE of my cups is like 2 to 3 normal ones, but still. So? Reduce 7% per cup? So my Percent of NOT getting Type 2 diabetes is like 252 percent?

So, the researchers behind the new study conducted laboratory experiments to see if compounds found in coffee could inhibit the production of the abnormal protein deposits associated with hIAPP.

Caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid and caffeine -- the three most common components in coffee, the study authors said -- helped reduce the abnormal protein deposits, but caffeic acid appeared most effective.

"Our results suggest that caffeic acid had the greatest effects in the major components of coffee. The rankings for beneficial effects of coffee compounds against the toxic hIAPP aggregation are caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid and caffeine," Zheng and study co-author Kun Huang, professor of biological pharmacy at the Huazhong University of Science & Technology in Wuhan, explained in an email interview.

Because decaffeinated coffee contains even higher levels of caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid than caffeinated coffee, the beneficial effect may be even stronger for decaffeinated coffee, they added.
You can keep the Decaf. I only drink the High Octane stuff.

The investigators pointed out that this work has only been done in cells, so it's not clear if this is how coffee might help prevent diabetes in the body.

A U.S. diabetes expert was guardedly optimistic about the study's conclusions.

"Scientifically, this is a very nice paper, but it has its limitations," said Dr. Vivian Fonseca, president of medicine and science at the American Diabetes Association. "This was done in cells, not in animals or people. We also don't know if the [abnormal deposits arising from hIAPP] are the most important thing in the development of type 2 diabetes, or if it's something that develops later."

In addition, Fonseca said, the study that found a link between a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes and coffee was an epidemiological study. That means the study couldn't prove cause and effect, only that there was an association between those two factors. It could be that people who drink coffee have other habits that lower their risk of diabetes.

The bottom line, said Fonseca, is it's way too soon to make any recommendations about drinking coffee to prevent diabetes. But, he added, "if you want to prevent diabetes, there are some very straightforward things to do. You can walk for 30 minutes most days of the week, and reduce calories a little bit and reduce your weight a little."
I have the Walking thing down. I will enjoy doing the Coffee thing. I will still go to the Gym. Oh wait,,this is not good news for me...

Zheng and Huang also pointed out that their study looked strictly at coffee. "Our study does not imply that the cream and sugar served with coffee will be beneficial for type 2 diabetes," they said.
All well, I guess I'll revert back to what I have always said. I'll Eat, or in this case, DRINK, what I want..{Smile} Be right back

Coffee And Skin Cancer

If this is TRUE, I wear a Suit of ARMOR made of Coffee Beans.

Hey folks,

I know, like me, some of you are getting a little tired of hearing things like this. I takes me back to my "I Eat Want I Want" Series. Every now and then, we get studies that pop up all over the place and tell us that this is Good, uh, Bad, uh, Good, Uh, well, we don't know how it effects you. Wine? Good, Bad, Good but only Red. Soy? Good, Bad, Good, uh, we don't know. Chocolate? You get the idea. Well, on this ever changing revolving Door of Information, is Coffee.

First Coffee is good. Then bad. It offs your chances of Heart Disease, yet may cause Cancer. Drinking coffee reduces risk of Alzheimer's, yet you hear Voices in your Head. Since I drink three POTS a day, NO EXAGGERATION, I should have a whole Party going on in mine. {Smile}

So I always take these things with a grain of Salt. Hey, there's another Good, Bad, ETC. item. Anyway, I always find these interesting, but for the most part, I always go back to the whole "everything in moderation" thing. Well, except Coffee.

So now we learn that Coffee, may actually fight Skin Cancer. According to WebMD - Coffee Fights Common Skin Cancer Coffee Drinkers Less Likely to Develop Most Common Type of Skin Cancer By Jennifer Warner WebMD Health News Reviewed by Laura J. Martin, MD

Oct. 24, 2011 -- Drinking coffee may help prevent the most common type of skin cancer.

A new study shows that women who drank more than three cups of coffee per day had a 20% lower risk of developing basal cell carcinoma (BCC) than women who drank less than one cup a month.

Men who drank more than three cups of coffee benefited from a 9% reduction in risk of this type of skin cancer.
If this is TRUE, I wear a Suit of ARMOR made of Coffee Beans.{Laughing} But you have to drink the GOOD stuff. None of this stupid Decaf stuff.

Drinking decaffeinated coffee did not have any effect on skin cancer risk, which leads researchers to suspect caffeine is the key ingredient.

"It is likely that caffeine has a protective effect," researcher Fengju Song, PhD, postdoctoral fellow in dermatology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, says in an email. "BCC risk was inversely associated with caffeine."
So what they have been telling us for YEARS. Caffeine BAD. Now it's GOOD. Do you remember Nicotine is GOOD for you? Not kidding. Did you know that Alcohol is good for you? It is. So why is it so BAD to talk about the side effects of these, but it acceptable to expect Side Effects of Man-Made Drugs? Just a thought.

But before you go out and pour yourself another cup of Joe, experts say there are better things you can do to reduce your risk of skin cancer.

"This is yet another study that says there is some benefit in terms of skin cancer for drinking caffeinated beverages,” says Paul Nghiem, MD, PhD, associate professor at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and University of Washington. “And if you do so, it is another reason to enjoy them. But it is a pretty small effect compared to known things, like getting a cancer detected and cut out early, avoiding sunburns, etc."
So instead of promoting Caffeine and it's possible Benefits, he would rather cut you up. Of course, just like MANY things when it comes to Healthcare, TREATMENT is more Profitable than Cure. It goes on a bit to tell you how and why. Check it out. Well worth the Read. Right now? Going to fill my cup. {Smile} Be right back.

No MJ Autopsy TV, Cigarette Scare Tactics in Canada

Thank God for small miracles.

Hey folks,

Happy New Year!!!! Welcome to 2011. Welcome to the Big Sunday Edition of the OPNTalk Blog. I AM your Provocateur of Thought himself, Peter Carlock. Glad to have ya. If you want to be part of the OPNTalk Blog, you can Email me at opntalk@gmail.com. You can also follow along on Twitter, Facebook, and find me over at Tom Sullivan Radio Listener's Club.

Short and sweet today. Got some Family stuff to do. Oh, and the new Pictures are up over at Facebook. For those interested. Well, here we are. First Post of 2011. How are you feeling today? {Smile} Well, I have some good news, or sad news for you. Depending, wait, no. I do not care who you are. WHY would anyone want this? A Michael Jackson Autopsy TV Show? It's not even real. it's an reenactment of the MJ Autopsy. Seriously? Why?

BBC - Discovery cancels Michael Jackson autopsy TV show

The Discovery Channel television network has said it will not air a re-enactment of Michael Jackson's autopsy, amid concerns the programme was distasteful.
Distasteful? Really? But,,oh never mind. Coming right up today?

Do you remember this? Pictures Of Aborted Babies On Planned Parenthood Doors I said that in response to the FDA proposing a new requirement that Cigarette Packs carry larger, graphic Warning Labels to cover half of the package. Then we learned that just ONE Cigarette can kill you. Just one. So I said Now It's Official, Cigarettes Should Be Banned

Seems that the Lib.s in Canada are trying to get ahead of the curve. According to the BBC - Canada plans larger warnings on cigarette packs
The Canadian government has introduced new rules that will force tobacco companies to place larger, more graphic warning labels on cigarette packs.

Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq said the new labels would cover three-quarters of the front and back of the packages, an increase from one-half.

They will feature warnings of tobacco-related diseases, like bladder cancer.

The new packaging will also list a telephone hotline aimed at helping those who want to quit smoking.

The federal government plans to launch a social media campaign targeting younger smokers alongside the launch of the new labels, Ms Aglukkaq said.

'Memorable' warnings

"Canadian and international research has shown that to be effective, health warnings must be noticeable and memorable," Ms Aglukkaq said.

Blah, blah, blah. Simply put, BAN them. If they are this horrendous, then BAN them. Go for it. Can you imagine if people started to sell Liquid Hydrogen Cyanide. People who take it once die. But people want it. So we start selling it and the Government comes along and says, "Well, OK. Since people want it, and they are going to buy it anyway, lets tax it." So now it's on the Market. But, "You better tell people that it will kill them. Show them pictures of dead people."

Yeah. Sounds ridiculous does it not? But Hydrogen Cyanide IS in Cigarettes. We are told all the time that smoking, well, now, just ONE will kill you. So why are they still selling them? The simple fact is money.

However, I still contest the fact that we have ANY evidence that Second Hand Smoke does ANYTHING. As far as just ONE Cigarette killing you. Complete Bunk. But we all know Smoking is not good for you. It DOES have the potential to KILL you in the long run.

Do we need Pictures? Do we need GRAPHIC Pictures? Yet still sell them? OK. But why do we not show Pictures of Aborted, Murdered, Children on PPH Materials and on the Doors of Abortion Clinics? If you Smoke, you MAY Die. If you are Aborted, you WILL Die. If your Mother decides to go there for the sole purpose of Murdering her unborn Child, that IS the intended outcome. So why do we not start showing them what they are choosing. Right?

Going to fill my Cup with my FAVORITE Coffee of all time. And that is saying something. Boca Java - German Chocolate Cake. Folks, if you have not tried Boca Jave Coffee, I HIGHLY recommend you try. They do not roast it until YOU order it. You can not get fresher than that. Just click on the Boca Java name. Even if you are an occasional Coffee drinker, you will be able to tell the difference. Be right back.

Dennis Hopper, Gary Coleman, and Celina Okwuone

What a list we have.

Hey folks,

Happy Sunday to you. Welcome to the Big Sunday edition of the OPNTalk Blog. I am Peter Carlock. Your Provocateur of thought, and this IS your gateway to Truth, Logic, and Reason, in the insanity that surrounds us. Your simplification of the complicated. Seriously, what a list we have. Dennis Hopper, Gary Coleman, and Celina Okwuone. God speed to all, may their families and loved ones have the peace and comfort they need in this time.

Gary Coleman. Many will remember Gary Coleman for his role on Different Strokes and many have been shocked by his untimely death at age 42. Coleman died after going into a coma after a fall, which may have caused or was the cause of a brain hemorrhage.

Dennis Hopper. Dennis Hopper, whose portrayals of drug-addled, often deranged misfits in the landmark films “Easy Rider,” “Apocalypse Now” and “Blue Velvet” drew on his early out-of-control experiences as part of a new generation of Hollywood rebel, died at his home in Venice, Calif., on Saturday, of prostate Cancer. He was 74.

Celina Okwuone. Celina Okwuone committed Suicide in her bedroom closet after finding life too difficult to live. She was ELEVEN years old. More on her in just a few minutes.

Yes we ARE going to talk about Celina Okwuone in more detail in just a second, and many of you may not like the position that I'm about to take. However, this does not change the FACTS in this case. I blame the Parents.

Here is something else going on. Turns out that thousands protested in Phoenix.

Under a broiling desert sun, tens of thousands of protesters on Saturday slowly marched five miles to the state Capitol to rally against Arizona's controversial new immigration law.

According to the AP - Thousands in Phoenix protest Arizona's immigration law

There was no official crowd estimate, but the march was by far the biggest demonstration since Gov. Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 into law on April 23. The law makes it a state crime to lack immigration papers and requires police to determine the status of people they stop and suspect are in the country illegally.
How many WERE Illegal? How many actually READ the Law? The MAJORITY in this country are FOR this Law. Many are about to have a Buycott in Arizona. Good for them.

Going to fill my cup. Today's Coffee of the Day is Brother's Gourmet Coffee, Chocolate Swirl. You can enjoy this great coffee as well from your local Grocer, Bookstore, and or, buy it HERE. H. S. Coffee Update.

Hey folks,

Guess what, THIS is post number 500! Another minor milestone for us. Now back to business. {Smile}

Back on October 29, 2006, I got some GREAT news. According to The Independent -Coffee found to be high in health-giving antioxidants.

"Coffee might soon be considered a health drink following a study showing it is a surprisingly rich source of anti-cancer agents.

A study has found that coffee contributes more antioxidants - which have been linked with fighting heart disease and cancer - to the diet than cranberries, apples or tomatoes."
I said in the Daily Artile "I Eat What I Want."

Well that’s great news for me. My coffee at my side this morning "Butterscotch Toffee." {Today it is actually Hazelnut} But that was great news for me. I pretty much LIVE on coffee. About two to three pots a day. No exaggeration. So anytime I see something that tells me it’s GOOD for me. I rejoice. {Smile}

Well, today is not different. Actually I beleave it came out on Tuesday, but none the less, according to Reuters -Coffee can be good for you, experts say.

Drinking coffee can help ward off type 2 diabetes and may even help prevent certain cancers, according to panelists discussing the benefits -- and risks -- of the beverage at a scientific meeting.

"We're coming from a situation where coffee had a very negative health image," Dr. Rob van Dam of the Harvard School of Public Health, who has conducted studies on coffee consumption and diabetes, told Reuters Health. Nevertheless, he added, "it's not like we're promoting coffee as the new health food and asking people who don't like coffee to drink coffee for their health."

Van Dam participated in a "controversy session" on coffee at the Experimental Biology 2007 meeting underway in Washington, D.C.

Why would ANYONE be against coffee? That is just not right. Coffee is not your enemy. Relax, have a nice cup of "Chocolate Velvet", or "Cinnamon Swirl" and just enjoy.

Dr. Lenore Arab of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA also took part, presenting results of a review of nearly 400 studies investigating coffee consumption and cancer risk.

There's evidence, Arab noted, that the beverage may protect against certain types of colon cancer, as well as rectal and liver cancer, possibly by reducing the amount of cholesterol, bile acid and natural sterol secretion in the colon, speeding up the passage of stool through the colon (and thus cutting exposure of the lining of the intestine to potential carcinogens in food), and via other mechanisms as well.

Now it appears that all is not good news from the good Doctor.

However, Arab did find evidence that coffee may increase the risk of leukemia and stomach cancer, with the case for leukemia being strongest.

The findings suggest that people who may be vulnerable to these risks -- for example pregnant women and children -- should limit coffee consumption, van Dam noted in an interview.

You know folks, it seems that ANYTHING that is out there could be put on a label "Pregnant women and those who are to become pregnant, should avoid "this." Whatever this is. That is pretty standard. I love the fact that they say kids should not drink coffee, but yet, there are an uncountable number of "ENERGY DRINKS" out there Loaded with caffeine that are marjketed DIRECTLY to kids. Anyway, Get this?

He and his colleagues are now conducting a clinical trial to get a clearer picture of the diabetes-preventing effects of coffee, which were first reported in 2002. Since then, he noted, there have been more than 20 studies on the topic.

Van Dam and his team are also looking for which of the "hundreds to thousands" of components of coffee might be responsible for these effects. It's probably not caffeine, he noted, given that decaf and caffeinated coffee have similar effects on reducing diabetes risk.

His top candidate, van Dam says, is chlorogenic acid, an antioxidant that slows the absorption of glucose in the intestines.

YES! More good news. I love my coffee. I love good news. So today is a win, win day for me. Also for you, if you enjoy coffee as much as I.
