Eggs, Yolks and All, Are As Good For You As Apples

Eggs and Coffee? I should live long and have a sound mind.

Hey folks,

For years there has basically been two groups. Those that HATE Coffee, and tell you, you will DIE, or become sick, if you drink it. Another that says Coffee is good, and has many Health Benefits. I prefer to agree with the latter.

For years we have also been told that the Whites of the Egg we love so much are OK, but you better not eat the Yolks. They are EVIL and will raise your Cholesterol, and increase your risk of Heart Disease. They have Products out there that even take all the work away from you. You can buy Egg Whites only. You can order Egg White Omelets. I know people who do. As for me? I love the Yolk. I love ordering Sunny Side Up or Over Easy nine out of ten times I eat Breakfast out. I MAKE Sunny Side Up Eggs and Hard Boiled Eggs all the time.

So seems that all those years of people skipping the Yolk, was wasted. Not only is the Yolk NOT bad for you, seems that a whole cooked Egg is actually as Healthy for you as an Apple. Yup. An Apple. Are you buying this? According to Shine - Are Egg Whites Healthier Than Whole Eggs? By Details Magazine Posts By Details Magazine | Healthy Living – Thu, Mar 29, 2012 2:21 PM EDT by Mike Dawson. I love the way he wrote this, by the way.

The yolk has been the enemy of breakfast for years-but no more, my egg-white-omelet-ordering friends.

Like most of you, I ditched the yolk thinking I was lowering my cholesterol, helping my ticker, and staying lean. But it turns out those yellow-less free-ranges were doing more harm than good. Here are three reasons to go for yolk (boo!) when you eat eggs.

First, assuming you are not obese, eat relatively well, and work out at least a little, a few or more whole eggs a week aren't going to lift your bad cholesterol levels.

Second, whole eggs are packed with protein, good fats, vitamins, and nutrients that have been proven to help boost your brain. Some studies suggest they may even guard against dementia.
Hey, so does Coffee. Eggs and Coffee? I should live long and have a sound mind.

Third, last year a study at the University of Alberta, home to one of the world's leading food-science programs, discovered that cooked whole eggs, yolk and all, are equal to apples in their antioxidant potency, and these robust antioxidant properties may actually help ward off heart disease and cancer.

Time to rethink that brunch order, buddy.
{Laughing} So have at it my Friends. Order those Eggs, yolks and all, a big cup of Coffee, and enjoy. You are doing your body and apparently Mind good. Be right back.

The Cost Of Eating Healthy

Cost of Junk Food Vs Healthy Eating.

Hey folks,

I have gotten MANY articles sent in by you, talking about everything from the Egg scare, to Caged vs Free Range Chickens, ETC. I have posted several articles about Healthy Eating, Franking Fish, and High Fructose Corn Syrup. So the question is, why do we NOT head in the direction of healthier eating?

The answer is sadly simplistic. COST. Here is what I mean. Go to the Grocery Store, look at the Food Prices. If you get mass produced Chicken, usually frozen, what is the cost. About ten bucks for a bag of Chicken. Look at the Fresh? You get maybe two good sized breasts. Look at the price for "Free Ranged Chickens" You will get even less.

Look at the mass produced products. You know, those high in preservatives and of course HFCS. Then look at the prices of "Organic." Go to the snack isle. How much for a big bag of chips? Some run specials like $1.99 a bag. Now go to the Produce isle. How much is a head of Lettuce? Getting the point?

When we can go to a fast food place, and buy a DOUBLE Burger and Small Fries for $2.11, or go to the store and buy? What? That's a whole meal, add a buck for the drink. So $3.20 you get a whole meal. No cooking. No real clean up. A whole meal. Go to the Store, you can not even get a ready made meal for $3.00. You have to buy all the ingredients, prep, and cook it. Then, add A LOT on if you try to be healthy. For a meal, you are most likely talking $10.00 to $20.00, plus the time to prepare it. If you are even able to prepare it. No one is teaching you how to cook anymore.

People would LOVE to eat healthier. The companies that produce "Organic," "Free Range," and more natural Foods would love to make more money. But the sad fact is, people go the cheaper route.

Then you have the stereotype that healthier food taste, well, bland, or bad. This is not always the case either. As many of you know, my Wife Laura is a Vegan. That means no meat, no dairy. I eat Vegan meals about two to three times a week. There has only been one or two that I really didn't like. You can keep the Tofu. ANY Tofu. But the "Beef crumbles" and the Bacon, oh the Bacon, actually tastes BETTER to me than the real deal. I'm not kidding. "Morning Star Bacon Strips?" Give them to me EVERY DAY! I can't get enough.

So why are the alternatives more expensive than the junk? Supply and demand play a part. Less people are buying them, therefore, they cost more. But at the same time, less people are buying them BECAUSE they cost more.

So what's the answer? Truthfully? I'm not really sure. You could start by watching a movie I just saw recently called "Food inc." It will change your perspective on the food industry. The facts are out there. Commonsense and logic are out there. But there is still the cost factor.

My recommendation to you, try it. Try it a little at a time. One meal a week, try to skip the meat. Try to buy from humane companies. Try to give up some of the Junk. You may find that you like it better.

Yes, it does cost a bit more to eat healthier, but the savings in long term medical bills will even that out. Now do not get me wrong folks, again, I like my meat. I like my occasional fast food. But I do not live for it, or on it. I try to eat healthy as much as possible. I try not to buy items from companies I know do not treat their animals humanely. I try to do the right thing.

I will tell you this. In the long run, not only you sill start feeling better, you may even start seeing a difference in your physical appearance. Worked for me.

I'm Going To Live Forever

Science Says So.

Hey folks,

Here is one reason I'm in such a great mood today. According to the new Scientific information just in, and that of which has been around for a while, I'm going to live forever. Here is what I mean.

First, as you all know, I drink about three pots of Coffee a day. Let's see, three pots a day, that's about 5 cups a pot, big cups, that's 15 cups a day. OK. Maybe some more than that from time to time. I am not exaggerating in the least.

So according to this study, I should NEVER have to worry about Alzheimer's or even Dementia for that matter.

Back on May 6, 2007 H.S. Coffee Update, I told you that they were saying that COFFEE was good at preventing some cancers. That’s great news for me. Today, Boca Java’s Tropical Kiss {Chocolate coffee with a smooch of coconut}

Now? According to WebMD Health News Reviewed by Louise Chang, MDFeb. 19, 2009 -- The odds of having a stroke may be lower for tea drinkers and coffee drinkers. By Miranda Hitti

That's according to two studies presented today in San Diego at the American Stroke Association's International Stroke Conference 2009.

The key finding: The more cups of coffee participants drank, the less likely they were to report ever being diagnosed with a stroke. For instance, among people who reported drinking one to two cups of coffee per day, 5% reported a history of stroke, compared to 3.5% of people who reported drinking three to five daily cups of coffee and about 3% of people who said they drink six or more cups of coffee per day.

Why do they not just label Coffee a health drink already? {Smile} That is one health drink I will have no problem drinking.

But then I saw THIS report. I love Eggs and Toast with my morning Coffee on the Weekends. The rest of the week I only eat Dinner. Mostly a time thing I guess. But I love eggs. Looks like THAT is great news for me as well. According to Science Cetric - Egg-irony: High cholesterol food may reduce blood pressure

Researchers in Canada are reporting evidence that eggs - often frowned upon for their high cholesterol content - may reduce another heart disease risk factor - high blood pressure.

They describe identification of egg proteins that act like a popular group of prescription medications in lowering blood pressure. The report appeared in the 11 February issue of ACS' Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, a bi-weekly publication.

In the new study, Jianping Wu and Kaustav Majumder note that eggs are an inexpensive source of high-quality protein and other nutrients. Egg consumption, however, has decreased during the last 40 years amid concerns about cholesterol. Recent studies do suggest that healthy people can eat eggs without increasing their heart disease risk. Other research hinted that certain egg proteins might have effects similar to ACE inhibitors, prescription drugs used to treat high blood pressure.

{Laughing} Well, I do not have to worry about high blood pressure, cancer, or stoke. I drink COFFEE. A lot of it at that. Now all they have to do is prove BACON is good for you and I will be in heaven. {Smile}

But I do still have that one bad habit. I smoke. Yes my friends, I smoke. BUT WAIT!!! I forgot all about this little known fact until my Niece {Who wants me to quit} pointed out that THIS may not be bad either. I said "What?" She said, "Did you not write about that before?" I had to go back into the archives, and you know what? SHE IS RIGHT! I forgot all about it.

"I’ll Eat What I Want"

Then you have Nicotine. That’s right folks, what is in cigarettes, could now be GOOD for you. I’m not making this stuff up.

"It has been known since the early 1980's that nicotine - a natural product derived from the tobacco plant - plays an important role in the brain. Researchers think that nicotine acts by stimulating the chemicals which play a fundamental role in transmitting messages between nerves and across the brain - so-called neurochemicals. Says Professor Paul Sanberg of the University of South Florida's Medical School:

"We wanted to look at the interaction of two well-known neurotransmitter systems in the brain because I was studying movement disorders like Parkinson's Disease. If you block one of these transmitters - Dopamine - then you cause Parkinson-like symptoms - twitching and involuntary movements. But when we also gave a small amount of nicotine, we found there was an interesting response. The nicotine seemed to 'exaggerate' the effect of the drug which blocked Dopamine - and caused the animals to become completely immobile."

{Laughing} THAT'S IT! I'm just going to live forever. No heart problems, no strokes, cancer, no worry about Parkinson's Disease, because I take care of myself. I eat eggs, smoke cigarettes, and drink a lot of Coffee. I'm pretty much immortal. {laughing}

Be right back with the Idiot of the Week.
